Default Hunger Games as a fundraiser??

OK, we just got our annual (large charity supported by our workplace) fundraiser information and they are using a Hunger Games motif

I love the books and the movie but, seriously? Who thinks a theme around starving desperate citizens and children forced to hunt each other and fight to the death is a great rallying point for helping the local needy?

Anyone else seen inappropriate choices for fundraising?

ROFL..way to miss the point of the books. (Though I don't consider anything 13+ a child, so I missed the "children fighting to the death" thing overall and wasn't nearly as horrified as some people seemed to be.) Maybe the point is "Feed the needy or eventually there'll be a violent bloody uprising like in Mockingjay?"

Don't watch Battle Royale then. The original "hunger games."

Japanese movie where the children of the country aren't respecting their elders, so each year they pick a class to fight to the death on an island in the same manner as "Hunger Games" (each kid gets a pack with tools and weapons and are spread out to fight). Movie came out long before Hunger Games.

I don't know why nothing was ever brought up on how blatantly the author of HG copied this movie.

    That seems rather tact-less...

This! I think that more than anything, HG is a cautionary tale.

They should both look to the movie "Running Man". Same idea just w/kids instead of adults.

Regardless, I think it was a "fail" as a fundraising idea!

Here is part of the email follow up I got " Come down, grab a donut, and learn about how you can support the <redacted company name> Hunger Games event that kicks off the 2012 <redacted charity name> campaign and supports the <redacted charity>Food Bank! "

I especially like the "grab a donut" part
