Yep...horses, bull whips, and curr dogs. I commute through cattle country in Central Florida every day. It is gathering and loading season down here right now and those boys are busy. We had a horse in on a trade last year that wasn't cutting it out on the ranch. Hearing those cowboy tell stories of gathering cows in the brush and woods is definitely interesting. Unfortunately as with many places the price of land and development is driving many of the old big ranches to sell off land. Not sure how much longer the crackers are going to survive in this part of the state (though I have seen a lot of new cattle moved in this year).
