Another potential tick issue for people to be aware of when around our horses.

ugh, just what we need. We had an awful spring/early summer here (tick-wise), but it seemed like the ticks disappeared in last month or so. ....Until I found an engorged deer tick on me last week. I'm not overly fussed about finding a tick still crawling around or lightly attached. But locked on and feeding? Totally skeeved out.

I gotta say, whoever named the disease "Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus (SFTSV)" has no talent for catchy disease names or acronyms.

Yikes - thanks for the warning - have loads of deer ticks in my back yard - when it got hot, they backed off, but saw another on my dog this week. Time to start wearing the permethrin covered jeans again...
How can there be so many currents in such a little puddle?

Apparently both of these cases took place in 2009; if we haven't heard any more about it since then, it's probably a little premature to lose much sleep over it.

Few years before that a young girl died of "hantavirus" from sweeping rat turd out of a school fieldhouse; for awhile you heard of an isolated case far-flung across the world, but I haven't heard of another in years now.

The best thing anyone can do to keep their immune system strong is to purge all sugar and HFCS from your regular diet.

At Yosemite they have deer mice that carry that virus, it's well known, I think. People need to be aware it's camping, not a hotel.

Yeah, you're right! Just heard it on the news too. I so HATE to think of stuff like that while I'm sweeping up the barn. I'm capable of worrying about anything, y'know!

Wasn't there a hantavirus death at one of our national parks within the last month? Very scary!
