    Default Pad Suggestions?

With my horse being out of work most of the winter, the top line is a bit lacking, to say the least. We are slowly getting back to work, and now my saddle fit is different. It seems to be pinching his shoulders and now sits lower in the front than the back. Is there a saddle pad that anyone has used and can recommend to lift the front of the saddle until he gets back into shape?

    Thanks!

If he has lost condition, his saddle is probably now a bit wide. A simple half pad can fill in the space while he muscles up. You can also just fold a towel up to pad it up so you don't have to spend a bunch of money on a pad you won't need in a few months.

I have been ogling the Ecogold Triple Protection half pad for a while now. In the interests of full disclosure, I haven't ridden in it yet but friends have given it rave reviews. This might explain why I haven't been able to pry it away from them to give it a try...

Also, the video for it is adorable and has totally convinced me that I must try it!

I can see myself indulging in one soon... just need to replenish the budget after a fabulous winter get away to Red Hills this past weekend!

Love my Mattes correction half pad. You can shim it however you need to depending on your horse's level of fitness, plus you can't ever go wrong with sheepskin. Just make sure you put it directly on your horse's back to get the full benefits.

Since you are looking to adjust saddle fit, I'd recommend either the Mattes correction pad (you can get it without sheepskin), the Prolite pad (either double or triple pocket) or the shimmable Thinline (with or without sheepskin). Personally, I've used them all and prefer the Prolite pad.

The Ecogold Triple Protection Pad is good for shock absorption, but not adjustable to correct saddle fit. They do sell small pads you can attach to their other non-slip pads, but I still feel the other pad options are better for saddle fitting options.

I make my own for 20 or so bucks. I have a wide dressage saddle so pretty much every horse I use it on needs a home made front gusset.

I get the white contoured foam 1/2 pad and cut it all up.
See below. I cut out the blue sections.
You can shop around and find this pad for 20-30 bucks. Start with horse.com or stateline.
The off brands/western catalogs usually have them for somewhere in the 20 range.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Purp, I am going to give your suggestion a try. I may even have one of those foam pads already around here somewhere.
