Twitter update an hour ago: Specialty vet brought in, Paynter has mild changes, and mild pain. Special casts put on to support feet. His appetite is good and the "big D" has shown improvement. They will hellp him fight as long as he shows he wants it.

A brighter update tonight:Paynter update: cut and pasted from twitter....

Paynter continues to amaze his vets by his resilience, class, charm, determination, what a horse. Indeed he is
so special. . Paynter has been walking comfortably all day. This afternoon his diarrhea resolved and he passed formed manure.
He was mildly uncomfortable when defecating, which is not uncommon in horses with colitis as the diarrhea resolves.
He has had an intermittent low grade fever but his blood work continues to be normal. He continues to be treated aggressively.

Please keep your good prayers and energy coming our champ is fighting and fighting hard

Paynter had surgery today at New Bolton...

You know, I'm really impressed with Zayat - he seems to have a connection with his colt and really does care for him.

Hoping now that Paynter can finally reach full recovery now that that nasty abscess in the cecum is gone. He's got to feel so much better with that thing out of his gut.

He's now at Fair Hill, as a resident of Bruce Jackson's therapy/rehab center. What a fighter. He looks good, if just a bit thin.

I am gobsmacked that he pulled through. What a freakin' horse. Kudos & massive respect from me to Zayat and the many, many folks involved in his treatment. I was more than a little wary that his struggle was being prolonged, but Zayat was very vocal about being ready to make a decision at the first sign from Paynter that it was time and I'll be darned, that horse really really DID want to fight. What a freakin' HORSE!
