Default nickel-sized loss of skin just above hoof

Note to self--get boots for cross-country schooling. What's the best way to protect? I would like for it to dry out and scab over, so I don't really want to put ointment on it (although I put some Novalsan on it for now). Wound powder? I'm worried about the flies tomorrow.

Did you see those new yellow shoes on the side bar? Forgot what they are called now and of course it's not popping up now. What about some of that purple spray on it? That is antiseptic and might dry it out.

Hmmmm. My vet isn't a fan of the purple spray. I can't remember why not.
