my mare cut her leg and took out a piece of her hoof as well. the cut is right above the coronary band. she's on oral antibiotics. we're applying antibiotic ointment to the cut.
i understand this location is prone to proud flesh formation and i'm wondering if i should take any precautions to make sure proud flesh doesn't form.
what works in your experience? do i just continue with the ointment until it no longer seeps or looks raw and then apply something specific for prevention of proud flesh?

In that location you're probably not going to prevent it. Get some Equaide. I know I sound like a broken record, but the stuff really IS amazing.
