It seems that, even after turning them off, electric wires still manage to shock me.

I had a strong reminder when I had unhooked the middle strand of fencing to rest on the top strand while I was grooming in the paddock and let it dangle into the puddle I was standing in... .... and now I always triple check the fence!!!

I absolutely hate being shocked! It is always so unexpected. I remember when we were kids my brother tried peeing on the wire. Sure lit him up but at the time I was too you to really appreciate the humor in it.

Me and DH both yelp out loud when we don't duck quite far enough. I have a real love hate relationship with electric fences, I'll tell ya.

DH backed himself right up into one for the first time, while he was holding Willow. Miss didn't really feel like sticking around and I think DH is still rubbing at his bum.

I also had a friend once who got zapped right in her...lady bits. Glad it was her and not me!

I'm sorry, I know I started this but these stories are funny...after the fact, of course!

Leo and I are fine. He was a liiiiitle leery of me most of the day. However, when suppertime rolled around, he forgot ALL about the shock and dug in.

Just one of those things which happen around hot wires and the need for periodic reminders... Heh...

One time I was trying to crawl through the electric fence at the corner, foot slipped and I fell onto the fence! No way to get off, zap zap zap zap and lots of cussing. Managed to finally get OFF the fence. My ankle and wrist were a little burnt. That was NOT fun.

I learned to be extra careful around the hot wire when I was being lazy and didn't feel like unhooking it on my way into a weanling pasture, and just ducked under. Got it in the small of the back and just fell to the ground & laid there for a few minutes. The weanlings looked at me like I was an idiot, and I can't say they were wrong.

Worst I got was through the saddle - stupid horse I was riding decided to sniff at a bit of mane or tail hair hung on a post and the fence that was supposed to be off wasn't. There was some yelling when I got back, since I KNOW that fence was off when I went to check after a wind storm and some damned fool went and lit it back up

True story.

I went in for an EMG test for carpel tunnel. For those that never had one, the specialist hooks you up to a machine and measures electrical currents going through the muscles. Fun.

Three quarters of the way through the test he stops the machine and asks me if I own horses. Almost fell off the bench. He proceeds to tell me horse people never do well with the test since they know what the zap feels like. LOL.

I had no idea that boob shocks were such a common occurrence! I've had the hand shock and one through the saddle (actually stayed with the horse!).
Never thought of trying to climb through hot wire, however, I have done some incredibly assinine things, so certainly am not pointing a finger at anyone!

My favourite was a story told to me about my lovely little mare and my former BO.
Little mare was being turned out with three young Holsteins, and BO figured he'd save a couple of steps and take their metal pail of feed in one hand and lead her with the other.
Well, while grabbing the electric gate handle, it made contact with the pail...through my BO, and into Little Mare.
Bucket goes one way, mare goes the other, and BO ends up on his arse in the middle.
Little Mare being a smart cookie would not let him NEAR her to catch her - Mrs BO had to come out to round her up!

Oh, I forgot to mention the cussing. Yes, there was some cussing going on afterward. Actually, quite a lot of cussing.

I read somewhere that research indicates that horses are very sensitive to electric shock and only need the fence on around 20% of the time to maintain respect. So now I just turn it off at the mains whenever I go out on the farm. If its going all night, that's way more than 20%.

I hate electric shocks - worst for me was a head shock.
