Fabulous round by the wonderful horse Trinidad with the Hungarian. Honest and steady as the day is long. They need to give this horse a gold medal.
In order to qualify, each national team ought to be forced to put their pentathaletes into a final clinic with FEI judges to certify that they can at least grab mane.

Those Hungarians actually rode.
C'mon GB and Hungary.

Hhaha. The horse has packed it in.
Well done horse.

Well there isn't much call for that as a military officer. It's a shame they don't research the history of their sport better.

Hey Molly Sorge, the COTH needs to do a feature article on Trinidad. He's my new favorite Olympian.
Egyptian did have a horror crap round but gave the horse a nice reassuring pat exiting when it was clear that all was lost. Good of the horse to put a freaking stop to the madness.

I am not able to watch, so thanks for the comments.
What I don't understand is why the competitors don't put in the time to learn to ride. This is the Olympics for pete's sake! Don't they want to do everything possible to win gold???
I am looking forward to seeing home town girl Sarah S who grew up in pony club here in Maryland. Go USA!

They should have a three refusals or a fall and you are out of the OVERALL competition. They's get off their ass and learn to ride then.

And the world number 1 modern pentathlete from the Czech Republic only gets left behind over 70% of the jumps.
Sorry, I'm particularly disgusted with Team USA for sending out arguably the worst rider in the entire competition. So I could care less about getting all rah rah for the home team. Disgusted.
In a nod to my Hungarian grandfather, go Hungary.

Isn't Pentathlon like the national sport in Hungary?

I wasn't able to watch it, but there is an article about the horse aspect of the sport online in today's New York Times if anyone cares to find it.
At least a new and different group of horses can put "Olympic veteran" on their resumes.

Are these the same group of now "ruined" horses that the women will have to ride tomorrow? Thankfully, the women are usually better, but not fair if they have to ride the same horses the men just crashed around and jerked their faces off.

Darn it, now I have to watch the running part of this to see if these guys are really that uncoordinated.

I think it's another group of horses for the women.
I actually think they ride one heck of a lot better than they did last time I watched!!!
I would take any and/./or ALL these horse - what a bunch of saints (as you all have already said!!)

Agree.
"Adding Idle Dice to a jumping string," remarked USET Coach Bert DeNemethy, "is like adding Secretariat to a racing stable."

I really like the black horse with white muzzle and socks ridden by the Egyptian. NICE and so kind!!! Looks tired! Can we blame him?
