I'm 5'4 and have a 13.3hh pony and a 15.3hh horse. I have no desire to go any larger than that!

I'm the same way. When I was horse shopping, my trainer cut me off at 16.0.... my mare is 17.0 and I LOVE her. I'm 5'2, and I fit her pretty well.
When I'm standing next to her she looks huge.
All my horses have been big, and I love it!

Superminion, you guys look great together, and I agree, she is very cute.
I tolerate all kinds of animal idiosyncrasies.
I've found that I don't tolerate people idiosyncrasies as well. - Casey09

Can't stand the look of tiny girl/big horse. I'm tall enough I might pull off a skinnier 17h who didn't take up all my leg, but I can't imagine LOOKING for one that huge.

Wow superminion, it's like an optical illusion! You do fit her well in the saddle, and she's adorable too!
I often see that fly on an elephant's back phenomenon at shows and it's so weird looking to me. Especially if the rider is overall very petite, riding a huuuuge heavy warmblood doesn't look like a good fit.
If the horse eats up my leg with his barrel, i don't care how tall it is.... that being said, those horses are usually 15.3 and tanks, or taller and slightly less tankish. On anything smaller/narrower, i feel almost as awkward as I'm sure I look!

I am 5'5 on a 17.1 WB. I don't think I look that small on him, but everyone else says I do. I didn't get him because he was that big, I got him because he is quiet, pretty darn nice (albeit green) and had a good ammy friendly type of attitude, he just happened to come in an XL package. I have ridden everything from a 13.2 POA to an 18.1 German tank Oldenburg, so size was not really much of a consideration for me.
Look at the Olympic showjumpers, lots of tiny women on huge horses and lanky tall guys on small catty horses. If the partnership works, size shouldn't be an issue.

I've never been much of a pony girl either. I'm 5'5 (though they keep decking my height on my ID) so not exactly very tall here but anything shorter than 16h just seems a bit small to me
Yes, I smell like a horse. No, I don't consider that to be a problem.

The bigger the better in my book. My homebred swedish wb/x is almost 18hh- and he is only 5 so I am sure he will hit 18hh.
Here is a pic of me mounting- had to add another step - and I am 5'7"

Nothing under 16 3 for me.
Here is my now retired 18 hand horse over 2' 3"and this was pretty much his first jumping show... he was a dressage horse before I got him. (he loved to jump)

Why I like the bigger horses -
1) I am 5'9"
2) They are impressive looking
and as long as they are coordinated -
3) Strides are easier
4) Jumps are smaller
5) Fun to ride
Don't saw on your horses mouth it's not a piece of wood!

Glad im not alone!!! For me they seem tobaby me and make sure not to hurt me, itscute. Picnic tables to mount are freakin awesome! And more hilarious, i usually ride the big guys betterthan taller riders! Maybe its the leg placement or the fact im a gentle rider or the big guys adopt me.
I know a boarder where i ride seems to have adopted me as her "foal" lol, she will help me clean, groom me ect

The different SIZES are characteristics of different BREEDS and TYPES of equines. Which have different personalities, attitudes, and ways of dealing with things because of their height. Like PEOPLE, which are not different breeds, per se, but DEFINITELY deal with things differently because of height and other aspects of size.
