My mare apparently has what the vet termed a "recessed anus" when she was being treated for a pseudomonas putida infection in her uterus (yes putida, according to multiple cultures to make sure we weren't crazy) He did a Caslick's on her and she came home two days ago. When she came home everything looked fine. Sutures were done in a nice clean line and everything looked normal. This morning though, there seems to be swelling and her skin is flaking in large sheets all around her vulva.
Any ideas? I've not had a mare with a Caslick's before, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not. Is it possibly infected? We were told, much to our surprise, that the risk of infection wasn't as great as one would think.
I have a call into him and he's usually good about calling back quickly. I just wanted to see what others have experienced as a 2nd opinion of sorts. Hopefully it turns out to be perfectly normal. The swelling is not HUGE, but still, I'm paranoid about my mare and anything that is even slightly unusual freaks me out.
