Default Fauquier County Barn Fire this morning?

I heard on the traffic report on WTOP that there is a major barn fire near Freedom High School and the intersection of Routes 28 & 17.

I hope no person or animals was hurt.

    Oh shit.

    Do you mean Liberty HS?

There's only one barn there - and it's a big one - but most of the livestock should be out on pasture this time of day.

Is that the one on 17 with all the trailers for sale? Wow. I am watching the NBC feed now and have heard nothing.

That's the one I'm thinking of, too. It's called Liberty Stables. I've found nothing online about it yet. I have noticed lately that there doesn't seem to be many horses there anymore. In fact, I think all I saw when I went by there (a while back) was a few cows in the field.

    fauquier.com says:

Future Bealeton church site burns to the ground
A barn at the inersection of Old Marsh Road and Marsh Road burned to the ground Wednesday morning. At about 5 a.m., the call went out for a structure fire. Engines from Remington, Warrenton, Lois, Catlett and Goldvein arrived to find the barn fully ablaze. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within an hour, though it continued to smolder throughout the morning. No one was hurt in the fire. The barn, formerly a farmer's market, was to be the site of a new church affiliated with St. Patrick Orthodox Church. – Mark Grandstaff

I drove past it while I was out and about today.

I think folks may have thought it was a barn fire because there is a dairy behind it.

The building is a total loss, and at least one vehicle burned.

It's very unfortunate for the new congregation - I hope they are able to rebuild very soon.

There didn't appear to be any damage to pastures, fencing, or livestock - and I don't think any pets or people were in the building - so that is a blessing at least. With the drought and the wind this morning - that fire could have spread through farmland and forest rapidly. Kudos to the firefighters who responded so quickly.

Oh dear. The time of day is a little suspicious -- too early for contractors to have been working and caused the fire. At least no-one was hurt.

Yes, that occurred to me too. Since the home is close to the road I'd wonder about a tossed cigarette - except I did not see any evidence of burnt grass except around the structure.

When it was a suspected barn fire I automatically thought - hay. But no - the dairy is a distance away from the burned structure.

I hope it was just contractor error or another simple accident. It's so dry here it wouldn't take much for a fire to get out of control and wreak havoc on pastures and hayfields - as well as structures.

    Praying for rain.
