    Default Girths

My girth at my old barn was "borrowed" aka stolen. So now I'm in the market for a new leather girth but can't find any I really like. Any recommendations? I'd like to stay under $100 if possible.

I have the ovation anatomical leather girth and I love it. Less than $100 and it cleans off easy.

I use a Nunn Finer Passage girth.

It is beautifully made, shaped and lots of padding. You can find them on ebay for about $100.

I have the nunn finer girth as well. It is very nice, especially for the price. Be warned though, it has a LOT of padding, it's probably an inch thick. It's very easy to overtighten if you're not careful. Other than that though, I love it. The leather is excellent quality and it has taken a good amount of abuse (stuffing it in tupperwares, dropping it, stepping on it, not cleaning it off, etc.) without a scratch. It looks brand new! I would definitely buy it again if I ever need another short girth.

For fussy horses that prefer a thin girth, and non-leather, the Jeffries Symbian is a nice choice. It's fairly thin neoprene with a waffle pattern on the side that goes against the horse, is shaped, and has equalizer buckles. And it really holds a saddle in place!

They also make a leather Harmony girth but I've never tried that one. Leather girths don't get along great with my mare.

I really like the Nunn Finer "Dressage Piaffe Girth", it's an equalizer and very cushy. Under $100 and very nice leather.

Does "Equalizer" means elastic on both sets of buckles?

For the Jeffries, it means no elastic at all, but the two billet buckles are sewn to a single, solid piece of webbing that runs through a metal ring lower down on the girth. so the webbing goes down from one buckle, through the ring, and back up to the other buckle. It's a very stable design and allows for more balance than doing up one billet a hole higher than the other one, say.

I got a great deal on a new Prestige Anatomic girth on eBay. They retail for $200+ and I got it for $102. Seller has recently listed more since then. Awesome girth, especially if your horse is of the round variety.
