    Default pleasure class question

I have decided to do the pleasure with my retired hunter. Just to have some fun, and make him earn his keep. Lol. My question is... when in the canter is it better to sit and show how comfortable his gate is, or get in a light seat and hack him like a hunter? Thanks in advance.

Pleasure class you seat unless they call otherwise.

Yup- sit and do the lightest contact possible. My mare had two "settings" she was a small jr hunter but we played in 4-h too. ask for a lower headset but have basically a loopy rein. Go slower, try not to pass and never, ever circle. I assume you are talking pleasure at small open shows.

Great timing on this thread--I'm doing my first pleasure classes this weekend. Why is circling a no-no? Just curious. Crossing over from the dressage arena for a fun day out.

Circling is a no-no because it often looks like you're having discipline problems as opposed to spacing yourself out - if you need to get more space cut across the ring. Pleasure classes can sometimes be a challenge in terms of the judging -some judges will judge almost exactly like a hunter class, others like a real pleasure class. If there are other pleasure classes in the division like Pleasure Hack or Pleasure Combination, Command or Go-As-You-Please chances as will be judge Pleasure, less hunter.

Yes cut the ring if you must but don't circle. You can pass if your horse is more forward
