Default Does this CL horse look preggo to you??

Been browsing the ads tonight and came across this one:
    http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/grd/3135330404.html

They said she's not preggo. And then said she's been left loose in the yard.

This doesn't look like just a fat horse to me....thoughts?

There is a paint 'gelding' in the back of some of the pictures...

She definitively has a weird conformation if she's not pregnant.

I worked at a barn that had an arabian mare that looked like that. The odd shaped belly, back was funky too.

I can't remember what exactly was wrong with her, but I do know that at one point she got sent down to San Luis Rey and the vets pumped a god-awful amount of fluid out of her - waaaay over 15 gallons - and she looked better for awhile. She had to wear a belt contraption similar to what they put on horses post colic surgery. It must have been uncomfortable because it was my job to put it on and she about ripped my face off over it on more than one occasion.

Preggo or something else growing in there. That's not a normal fat hay belly horse. Look at her crest and her butt ther is no sign of fat really

This poor thing. I'm of the agreement that there is something going on with her. That's way more than hay belly.

Something going on there. Look at the back. And daughter moving on to a "faster" horse from this "super-gentle, very slow" one -- sure sounds SICK to me.

Going to give in to my bitch today. Barefoot during washing? Horse standing ON the lead while the kid, helmetless and shoeless is up? And, what's with the standing on the back --again?

I think this pony is worth a look, despite the abnormal belly.

I would guess she was either pregnant or ruptured her broad ligament at some point.

There is something going on there for sure. Got quite a roach back, too. Poor pony, looks very kind and sweet and patient. (I do not need any more ponies, I do not need any more ponies....)

Back is awful. Poor thing. As for the belly, I had a mare that looked pregnant even though she wasn't. Since she was a stray, we could only assume she had spent years as a broodmare. When she showed up it was clear she had recently weaned a baby so the rest was speculation. It could be that or something else.

The broad ligament supports the uterus. If the uterine artery is also affected it can be fatal. If the mare survives she often looks like the one above or worse. It may also be a ruptured pre-pubic tendon.

They had a pregnant mare on Animal Planet's ASPCA show from Houston that had that. Poor thing delivered and then died within a day.

I think Laurie is dead on with her assessment. Think the pony ruptured her pre pubic tendon or broad ligament. She is also pretty down in her pasturns hind and fore maybe she has DSLD(Degenerative Suspensory Ligament Desmitis) . Since it is a connective tissue disease it certainly could have affected other areas first.
