Any experience with their saddles?

Depends on your budget and what level of quality you want, I've checked them out and was NOT impressed at all. Personally I'd rather look for a high end, well made used saddle. If you can size your horse accurately w/ measurements and wither and back tracings you can find some great deals on used, custom made saddles at good prices.

He has been a saddle maker for his entire life I understand and many people like them.
He is known to be a good saddle fitter if you are in the area.

Pretty low budget (below $500), looking for a saddle more suitable for the poking around I'm currently doing. Just sold my Double J roper, it was just too nice of a saddle to poke down the trails and dink around at small shows with.

Last 'poke around' saddle I bought was a Corriente for my father, which isn't bad for the price.

LOVE RUFFS! Have had about 5 saddles from them, loved every one of them, great quality and a VERY affordable price!

Don't have one now because they don't fit my gelding...which I was EXTREMELY disappointed about...

My dad has known him for forever and they have several of his saddles.

I bought one and didn't care for it at all....... pitched me too far forward.

From what I understand not everything he sells is made by him anymore, has outsourced I guess.

Upstanding great man tho, and an excellent resource for saddle fitting etc.

This. He is a stand-up guy, has built a bridle for me for hard-to-fit gelding, patched things for me, is a great guy. It'll be a sad day when he passes the business over completely to his son, and his grandson...great family business.

Think he has turned over the leather work to some other folks, his son does a fair bit still, I think. Made me smile to see this thread. Grew up w/ trips to Ruff's and his little road sign still makes me smile. Word of mouth place for sure.

I took the risk and purchased the saddle, from the info I exchanged in the emails it should fit my horse. If it ends up not working, then lesson learned and try to sell it. Otherwise I'll have a nice poking around saddle to do my daily riding and a little barrel racing
