Default Summer Water Danger for dogs..Blue Green Algae. Just an FYI

It's that time of year, hot not let your dog swim in any water that has blue green algae. This stuff can kill your dog within 24 hours and there is no cure.

Oh gosh, I worry so much about this. We live in a town with myriad rivers, streams and lakes. We live right across the street from one lake. I'm always scanning the water for suspicious algae, and worrying that I might make the wrong call, even though none has been reported in Mass to date. My husband thinks I'm paranoid, but this really concerns me. Our dogs are BIG on swimming and they drink while they swim, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I had to stop taking my dogs down the dirt road by our house...there is a creek where we always go and the water had gotten yucky. They love to swim so much I couldn't stop all 5 from dunking. Now I've got a nice big kiddie pool under the shed off the barn. Water stays cooler, cleaner and no green gunk!!
