The 3rd at Suffolk is about to go off, and
there are more female jocks in this race than male. I think that's pretty cool. That is all.

I think thats wonderful too! I have daughter who wants to race-ride -- shes hoping to enter the next amateur race.
This last months amateur's race included a young girl who ran 4th. --- how exciting.
When I was in college, I landed a part time job exercising polo horses, however, I was NOT allowed to ride in the games (then).
The girls (the kids in general) have come a long way in all the horse-disciplines, but especially racing.

Was Andria Terrill one of the jocks? I rode with her a couple of years back for Asmussen and last I heard she was riding at Suffolk. Great girl

Andria Terrill is riding at Suffolk this season. She was not in yesterday's 3rd, though (so how's that for cool -- it didn't even take Suffolk's entire female jockey colony to make more than half the field.)

DRF 7/11/12: "Suffolk Downs: Seven female jockeys riding at same track"
When Vicky Baze was riding at Suffolk last month, the women’s jocks’ room contained the fourth-, fifth- and sixth-winningest female riders of all time and three of the top four active women jockeys.
According to Davis, the smaller quarters of the women’s jockeys’ room is a challenge.
“It’s bigger than most girls’ rooms I’ve been in, but it’s not that big. And it’s not easy because we are all so overly competitive,” she said. “We keep it light and try to look out for each other. Even though we’re competing and even through there’s a bunch of us, we are still a minority and we realize we need to stick together.”
Having the leading jockey in the same locker room has also been an asset to Davis.
“It’s an honor to be successfully competing like this, especially with someone like Tammi,” she said. “She’s one of the strongest riders I’ve ever seen, and I’ve learned so much just watching her and listening to her advice.”

Race 10 at Suffolk today ... [race caller] "I have no idea what's going on but I can tell you about the weather"
Following a tornado warning earlier, the track was hit with a deluge of rain, thunder and lightening. Tough time to be racing.

I've been under that roof in its pre-"vision" state during torrential weather. 'Hope everybody had an umbrella, inside and out.

The Boston Globe did an interesting article on Robbie Davis with Jackie Davis, largely based at Suffolk: "For father of jockey, a familiar risk"

Jingles for Jackie
Jackie was just thrown from her mount when the horse to her inside came out hard at the 1/4 pole. She was talking and it looked like she was moving her arms and legs, but she went down hard. Here's hoping all will be fine.
Shockingly, the horse (who went a$$ over teakettle)got right up and looked fine running off the track

Boy, how things have changed. When I worked there women weren't allow on the backside after 9PM, and there were one or two female riders.

LMAO @ Spooky01 thought of the day.
Every Animal Abuser should turn into a Slinkie so we can watch them go down the Empire State Building's stairs.
Thanks for the mental thought and giggle.
Thumbs up to all the girl jockeys, I did thoroughbreds for about 3 yrs. sorry to say that was enough and went back to Jumpers. But all my Jumpers are OTTB's.

Hey a Davis won the 7th race today - but it wasn't Jackie rather her kid brother Dylan and with it he finally broke his maiden (Jackie was in the same race, on Mock Me Not, but finished 6th.) Chart (pdf) Race 7, Suffolk Downs 9-19-12 with Dylan Davis on winner Soldier Sam
If I'm correct his career stats are ... starts: 24; and going 1-0-3
