Absolutely love that mare Our Helen Wheels that GoforaGallop posted. I'm not a mare person, but that package has everything else going for it, in my opinion.
Small can be good because I often feel that the smaller horses stay sounder.

I agree, but I have a longer leg so I feel more comfortable on horses with a bit more height/size to them. I am not looking for some 17.3 hand giant, but I would prefer to stay above 16 hands.

Well I'm not about to go dredge up a list of names, but several have already posted on this thread about buying/selling based on photos alone. If you go check out the Fingerlakes Finest Updates thread on the General board, you'll see that almost everyone on there bought their Finest "sight unseen" as well.
It's fine and dandy that you want to go check out your horses in person...and for someone who is less experienced or who really needs to "bond" with a horse at first sight, that's a great idea.
That being said, it wasn't realistic for me to go look at the Fingerlakes horses in person, six hours away from me, and I wasn't seeing anything I liked at the Suffolk track. So I bought my mare just off the photos, and had her shipped. I have no problem supporting an additional horse, and knew that if she didn't work for me, I could easily find her another home after putting some training on her. Luckily, she's a doll and I'm in love.
I wasn't trying to dismiss your idea to go look at the horse in person; that's a great idea. My mare was fuzzy and dull in her track photos, and one of her feet looked slightly clubby. No fault of the volunteers who took the listing in under five minutes, they're not pros and don't have the time to stand every horse up perfectly. She arrived off the trailer a mess as well due to some bad care between the track and me, but she's now drop dead gorgeous. I'm just saying that it's unfair to classify everyone who looks at photos as "just browsing." There are plenty of legitimate buyers who buy off photos alone, particularly OTTBs.
Well isn't this dandy?

I am in the same boat...I will not be able to see these horses as it will cost more to go out to see them then their asking prices. I am a very cautious buyer though and will make sure I am choosing the right horse before juping into anything.

I got my current OTTB based solely on the word of the someone I know who works on behalf of CANTER. I'd never even seen him when I picked him up. Honestly, when I first saw him, I thought he was too small for me (I'm 6'). That was 5 years ago .

We bought several based on photos alone. Several broodmares, so not competing, but we also bought our stallion based on photos only. We knew we'd hit the jackpot when he walked off the trailer. He's not currently competing either due to my lack of time/money, but he's never had any soundness issues and was schooling up to Prelim level.

I have asked for more pictures of Brooky Bear, and am anxiously awaiting more pictures of Cover Ur Heart.

I also like this mare:

I am a little worried about her age though.

Isn't she fantastic?! I am sitting on my hands on a daily basis and hoping to see her moved to the sold folder ASAP, because I can't get her off my mind.
I'm 5'2'', so I like the little ones, and I think she's a fantastic, athletic-looking girl. Unfortunately, I barely have time for my Fingerlakes baby from last season, and am moving in the next year so will lose my cheap horse care.

I must say she is lovely and elegant looking....her age if not for re-sell isn't an issue. If she has had down time and doesn't pine for the structure of track life..why not..

Camakello has an incredible engine on her. She almost looks as if she were bred to jump. Every time I see a horse with a long back and a huge engine, I always hark back to Darco--well, Parco in this case.

She also has a VERY interesting pedigree.

I like the grey mare. He age would nix it for a re-sale but if I was looking for myself...she is totally my type. And very clean looking legs for a long race career.

Another vote for Camakello, I really like her look!

Camakello is now 10 years old...I am really weary of her age because I'd like something I can take up the levels, and I don't want her age and the wear and tear from all those years at the track to become an issue.

Cover Ur Heart is definitely my first choice at this point. I also like Brooky Bear a lot, but her neck seems short/off in proportion to the rest of her. Am I just seeing things or does she really have a short neck?

I don't believe Brooky Bear's neck is too terribly short. The mare happens to have a very long bottom line compared to the top line making her back look long, but I don't believe her back is that long by itself (I believe it may actually be short). What she needs for her neck is some proper muscling and groceries.
If you were to measure the length of her neck and compare it to the measurement of the back length, I think you might find somewhat similar numbers. What I think may be hurting her neck's appearance is that the muscling and headset she has in the photo makes her appear a tad ewe necked, which you'd only be able to determine with more photos or in person.
From what you can see, there's not too much else you can fault her on. May be a little light of bone, but she looks like she's got some nice big feet. A big muscular shoulder with a hind end to match, too. All in all, I think she is a very nice athletic picture and definitely warrants a visit!
Good luck with your hunt though, the chase is half the fun!

I bought a horse named Forgotten Cat at the end of his 9 year old yearwho I finally started this year at 11. I see many many years of eventing in his future, and he had a hard racing career with many many owners.
Anyway, forgive my digression, I just don't want you to hold back too much if age is the only factor. The Progno's take good care of their horses and if they say they're sound you can count on it.
Also, I think it was Brooky Bear's neck you were worried about... I think she's a lovely mare and her neck is not too short at all. If you think of her neck as starting at the base of her withers you can sort of visualize what she'll look like in dressage after she's had a chance to develop a topline. I think she's well made and looks like a super prospect.
Of course I want you to wait it out until the perfect Finest comes along
Would it be at all possible to get video footage of Camakello? I absolutely LOVE greys!
