I have a ASB mare that has been lame for more than a year now. It started last spring when she came up three legged lame one morning. We'd had a lot of rain and the only thing my vet and I could come up with was she must have slipped in her paddock. Her hip on the right side is dropped and she went from a beautiful walk with plenty of over step and a nice swinging back to what you can see in the videos. Going to the right is obviously worse.

Vet took rads of both legs from the stifles down and ultrasounded her pelvis to see if she might have fractured anything. All looked good. Vet injected the hip and recommended stall rest for a month, then limited turnout with hand walking for a second month, then back for evaluation. Did all of this without any improvement.

Second round included injecting the hip and SI, more stall rest, chiro every two weeks and massage. Still no change. Vet recommended turning her out to pasture for 6 months and see if that helps.

It's been 13 months now and she's no better or worse than she was at the end of the first few months. She's still lame but doesn't palpate sore anywhere. She will protest a little if you lift her left leg up too high while trimming or cleaning her hoof. If you let her stretch a bit first, she's fine. She runs, bucks, does flying lead changes, and sliding stops like nothing is wrong but obviously it shows in her gait.

I'd welcome any suggestions of what anyone thinks might be going on with her. The videos are from March, I don't have any more recent. However, she goes the same now as she did then.

Have you tried a chiropractor?

Bone scan time?

Yes, we've tried regular chiropractor visits with no change.

A bone scan is an option we are considering.

Did vet do blocks?

We did do blocks but only from the stifles down with no noticeable difference. Reasonably certain the issue is in the hip area. Vet says her pelvis is rotated slightly. We were hoping the injections with regular chiropractic work could help resolve the issue but it hasn't improved anything.
