Unrelated to the olympics, but I'm going canoeing tomorrow - like, real canoeing, on a river, fully clothed and whatnot. But during the planning I keep laughing to myself after reading this thread - particularly when my brother in law said that we'd "figure out who canoes with who later." I'll be laughing to myself all the way down the river...

And as Labor Day weekend draws to a close, did anyone go to the lake this weekend? Or shouldn't I ask?

I think one of the best ways to enjoy canoeing is to tell each other no canoeing until....and pick a day a week or two away. Before our wedding we said we wouldn't canoe until the wedding night, and we were both away on business for a week or so, then we came home 3 days before the wedding. Not being allowed to canoe, made it naughty and thus much more interesting. We ended up playing in the water until there was no water left! It was really more fun than a lot of canoe trips I have taken.

Do an image search on "Springmaid sheet ad". They're from the '40s and '50s, hilarious, and often politically incorrect: http://thesecularity.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7513

I just wanted to let everyone know the power of COTH, my whole crew and several other non horsey folks now use canoeing and kayaking in their daily language. They have also added pontooning, because they are very optimistic boys

I think pontooning requires a bigger boat, yes?

I think pontooning would definitely infer a larger vessel. Of course, there is a specific brand of pontoon boat called a Party Barge. That could make a difference.
