Treadstep Donatellos - having issues
How are everyone elses holding up?
I really like the way they fit me, however, the leather on one of the boots is wrinkled. One boot is smooth, and the other is rippled in places. I pulled them out a couple days ago (first time since October) and was bothered by the leather. They are stored inside, in a boot bag, with boot trees and were cleaned thoroughly before being relegated to the back of the closet this past fall.
Additionally, the dye (?) from the inside of the boot big time bled all over my socks and breeches. It is a horrid baby diarrhea color. Atrocious, really.
Anyone else having these issues or did I just get some lemons?

I've only had mine for a few months but I haven't noticed any of that happening! I'm sorry! Only complaint I have about them is they are a bit gappy in the knee/calf area.

I have had mine for almost a year and they are holding up amazingly well for a $250.00 boot. I school in them and really like them. I do find the light brown die on my socks after a ride but not too terribly bad. I have socks just for riding so I don't really care about the tan color on my socks.
I would contact the company or the store you bought them from to see if they can help you.
I have a pair of Ariat Crowns that wrinkled funny on the side calf area. I never did anything, I just let it be. They have been that way for 8 years. They have not peeled or had further problems. It's really not that noticeable.
Don't saw on your horses mouth it's not a piece of wood!

I contacted the store that I purchased them from. They are forwarding the pictures to the company (see below).
Left boot:

Right boot:

I know they aren't expensive boots, but they have only been ridden in a handful of times. I just worry about them falling apart.

Were the boots stored standing up? Maybe that's what caused the leather crinkling in the ankle area?
Or by a heat source? Once I left some leather by a heat source & it did get a little ripply wrinkled.

They had boot trees in them and were in a boot bag since October. Stored in the back of a closet no where near a vent or any other heat source.
If it were the same on both boots it probably wouldn't concern me as much, but it seems a little weird that one is still smooth and the other crinkly...

They could simply be too tall for you. The wrinkle at the top is from the bend in the knee and the ankle is just from the boots 'falling'.

I'm good with the "droop" in the ankle and at the top of the boot.
I'm talking about the texture of the leather. The texture is different between the two boots.

Wow I can't believe I'm posting so many times in one day. I wouldn't be upset about how they are wearing in. I'd expect that. What I would be upset about is the bleeding.

The very fact that they're named after a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle would be too much for me . . .

Ah, I see now.
Did you put them away wet, by any chance? The white... Is that mould?

Nope. Last time I wore them prior to this weekend it was totally dry out and they went away dry.
The white specks you are seeing aren't mold - no mold anywhere, promise.
We had a massive storm rip through sunday morning (when I last had them on) and they got a bit wet/sandy at that point (they've since dried and the wrinkled areas were there prior to Sunday).
Pictures were taken before I cleaned them completely.

Saw a rider today with a pair that also bleed all over their socks..same orange dye.

Burgie, while my experience was not with Tredstep, I have a pair of custom half chaps where the leather was all wrinkled on one chap, exactly like on your boots. I was lucky enough to run into the maker at a show, and he confirmed that something was not quite right. He said it probably had to do with adhesive that was used to glue the outer and inner sides of the chap together. Either it did not dry correctly, or it was not applied evenly. The wrinkles also occurred in a spot that didn't get any stress, much like your boot. He replaced the wrinkled chap for me, and I have had no issues with either chap several years later.
I hope Tredstep replaces these for you.

Keep us posted
Please let us know the outcome, I have I pair and absolutely love them. First ride was like they were custom fit but I too have some of the wrinkling. Not to the extent yours are but am now wondering if it will happen.

I had emailed the same pictures posted on here to the tack store where I originally purchased the boots. They forwarded the pics to Tredstep who said to replace them.
I took them in today and received the new boots.
After starting this thread, Tredstep sent me a pm and offered to replace them.
Way to go with the customer service, Tredstep!
