I am thinking of putting my dog on MSM for her skin allergies.... she is a 2 yr old mini poodle, but the reason I am choosing MSM is because she is also very active (runs, jumps, plays with the frisbee and goes to the farm) and I thought the MSM might also help her joints as a preventive.
She weighs 18 pounds, 8 ounces. I found some 500 mg tabs that we are going to try (tabs/capsule is better for us-- not powder) I was thinking I would start with half a tab, and see how that does.
Are there any down sides to giving her MSM? We will obviously check with our vet, but I thought I would ask the wonderful people of CotH if you have had any experiences with it.
Honestly, I wouldn't think it would help much with either condition- it's an anti-inflammatory agent.
If you want an athritis preventative, try something with glucosamine/chondroitin, not MSM.
If you want to give her something to help the allergies, try fish oil or other omega-3 fatty acid supplement.
