Unhappy My trainer is trying to kill me!!!!

Ok I take back what I said about my trainer not being mean!!!! She took my whip away and made me uses just my legs to get tank going.... He is such a pain in the ass to get going with just your legs. She was working on getting me to keep my heels down. Had me doing two point twice around the ring.. I am so sore it hurt!!!!!! Sorry needed to bitch somewhere....

Wanting to kill your trainer is part of paying your dues and knowing you are getting your $$$ worth.

A lot of two point, particularly when you do it without stirrups, will help immensely for your riding. Yes you will be sore now, but if you do a little bit every week you will start seeing a difference in your balance and endurance. It will pay off in the long run.

Just a guess here, but perhaps she took your whip away because she assessed that you were using it more than your legs, seat, and back. Just a thought.

They had a contest at my friend's barn to see how many times around the arena they could post without stirrups. They finally called it a multi-way tie when they were still going strong at 99 laps! Suck it up buttercup. If you want easy you are in the wrong sport.

OP, DD wholeheartedly agrees with you! Trainer had her trotting and cantering around the ring with her arms spread out and up in two point. Then we did the posting with no stirrups when DD kept bracing on her right foot. However the smile from ear to ear as she cantered around the ring in the most beautiful seat I have ever seen was worth it... Till I made her walk 1,000 miles (It was only like 1 mile TOPS) through the grocery store. She was still moaning this morning till her friend came over then they were racing around like nothing! Youth is SOOO wasted on the young!!

oh i am laughing about it. I know she needed to do. But cant a girl bitch lol... My heels weren't that big of a problem till recently when we started to work on the canter. So now she is going back to getting me to keep my heels down.
This way I will have a better seat. She is a stickler for perfection.

As an instructor, I don't feel like I've given a good lesson unless someone ends up sore!

I had one instructor who used to tell the class to get into 2 point and would then talk on his phone for a good chunk of time. I, being the stubborn one, would hold my two point until he said not to.......which would be 15-20 minutes later. My two point used to rock!

I love my trainer and take everything she says to heart. So I know she is doing it for a good reason. She is a great trainer and I am lucky to have her train me. I do pick things up quickly. I never give up and when I set my mind to something I don't stop till I get it done. I just get frustrated cause my damn heels don't want to do what they are suppose to do. I was a dancer for so many years that I am trying to untrain my dancers feet to do the complete opposite of what was drilled into my head for so many years. But hey no pain no gain. Thank you everyone for letting me bitch.

In some countries, they make beginners (like myself 30 years ago) ride on a lunge line with no stirrups, no reins, your hands holding each other and placed on your diaphram, with a riding stick between your elbows and resting behind your back. Occasionally they would "add" the blindfold and have us count the footfalls of the horse at W/T/C.

But baby can you ride/feel after a few weeks of that!!!

just have to add a different view point. Sometimes a lazy horse is so because of too much leg - the aids become white noise!! Take your legs off the horse between aids so you know they aren't stuck on. And, at the same time, feel how deeply you sit. A deep seat (and heels down) comes from not gripping. Yes, your legs must be strong to ride, but they must also be under control!!!

I'm sure your instructor would say it's music to her ears to hear you whinging!! . I'm a coach and I love it when my clients' muscles hurt in the right places!
