Unhappy Does it ever get easier? RIP, big guy

My stud had a stupid, silly pasture accident. The sort of thing where they're goofing off, all 4 feet go out from under them, and they fall on thier ass. Get up, act surprised, shake it off, and keep going. Unfortunately, my guy did more damage than that. Potentially fractured his neck. And while he responded well to meds for a few days, and was doing better, he took an ugly fall and we decided to put him down tonight. Yeah, i know, i made the right choice, did what was right for the horse, he's not suffering, i know, mentally, all of that. But as a professional, having owned beaucoup horses, running boarding, training and breeding farms, you come to accept that you're going to have to, at least occassionally, deal with the death of a horse. But this one upsets me just as much as the first one, 25+ years ago. Last summer I had a brand-new boarder who decided to put her old guy down. I bawled like a baby. I hadn't had the horse in the barn for a month, barely knew the horse or his owner. I know i'm rambling a bit, but you'd think this is a fact of life and the business that i'd get used to by now. If i ever do, i suppose i should get out of horses altogether. But right now, i sure wish it was easier to deal with.....

RIP, One Tough Dude. you'll be missed.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't think it ever gets easier, because then you wouldn't care and that would be tragic.

It's not supposed to ever get easy, but that's why we're here. To tell you we understand, we've been there, and that tears are okay. Run wild, run free Dude.

The world completely sucks when we lose an animal-it does. I feel the loss and think the world will never be the same. And I am right, the world is different, and we embrace that difference when we welcome the new animals in our lives.

I keep this thought close to me and my children, I'm currently struggling with the loss of a couple of animals, I need to focus on the animals that have come to me and are here with me now.

Huggs, it really hurts to experience the loss...
