Olympic Show Jumping Team Announced

Today marked the IOC deadline for declaring riders and horses bound for the 2012 Olympics. Over the last several months, chef d'equipe Rob Ehrens has been puzzling over Olympic matters. The pieces of the puzzle finally fell into place in Aachen: the Dutch show jumping team for London includes Gerco Schröder with the KWPN-recognized stallion Eurocommerce London (studbook name: Carembar de Muze s.Nabab de Reve out of Ta Belle van Sombeke by Chin Chin, breeder: J. de Brabander of St. Niklaas), Jur Vrieling with VDL Bubalu (PROK s.Baloubet du Rouet out of Zancara keur pref prest by Nimmerdor, breeder: VDL Stud of Beers), Maikel van der Vleuten with the KWPN stallion VDL Groep Verdi (Quidam de Revel out of Clarissa by Landgraf I, breeder: Veehandel Musterd of Hooge Zwaluwe), and Mark Houtzager with Sterrehof’s Tamino (Numero Uno out of Larianne by Farmer, breeder: E. ten Hoor of Hoogersmilde). First reserve is Leon Thijssen with Tyson (Numero Uno out of Kickyqueen elite sport-jump by Voltaire, breeders: G. Lindeboom and E.J. Meijer of Dalfsen); Harrie Smolders with Regina Z is second reserve.


"I prefer that Gerco Schröder ride Eurocommerce London. However, if Gerco thinks Eurocommerce New Orleans is in better shape, then it's okay with me if he takes that horse to the Olympics. I'll leave that decision to the rider," according to chef d'equipe Rob Ehrens.

And yes, except for Whisper, every single horse in the German dressage contingent carries Donnerhall blood.

Denis Lynch's show jumping nomination was withdrawn after yet another horse of his failed a post performance hypersensitivity test. If you recall, he was disqualified at HongKong for failing a drug test and he's had a couple since then.

Good on the Irish Federation.

But Cian O'Connor who had the gold (?) taken away after Athens for a drug positive with many accompanying peculiar happenings with be his replacement on Blue Loyd 17.
