Hi HappyVagrant, thanks for your question. USEF has told us that eugenol is the specific constituent they are worried about with regard to licorice, and as stated above, we have certified that SmartGut is eugenol-free. Have a great weekend!
All, I just wanted to share; my latest response from USEF about using SmartGut at shows:
"L-glutamine, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, hydrolyzed collagen, magnesium silicate, mannanoligosaccharides, glycine, gamma oryzanol, slippery elm, marshmallow root, orthosilic acid (silica), lactobacillus acidophilus, dried aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract, dried bacillus subtilis fermentation extract, fenugreek seed, magnesium silicate, maltodextrin, and natural and artificial flavors are permitted under the Therapeutic Substance Provision of the USEF Equine Drugs and Medications Rule.
Licorice may be under the Therapeutic Substance Provision of the USEF Equine Drugs and Medications Rule only when the eugenol has been removed from it."
So if Smartpak is guaranteeing their Licorice in Smart Supplements is Eugenol Free, then Smart Gut will be OK to use when showing. (also means SmartDigest Ultra is probably OK too, since I believe only question with that one was also Licorice I believe).
