I need to teach about 5 groups of kids (ages 5-12, separated into groups by age) the basics of horse safety tomorrow. Does anyone have any fun horse safety activities? I don't want to be just lecturing for 45 minutes, especially with the younger kids. I was thinking of bringing in some stuffed toy horses for the kids to practice with- they could practice approaching a horse, petting a horse, feeding them a treat, etc. I have lots of resources- books, handouts, etc, and have looked through previous horse camp threads... but still having trouble coming up with fun and hands-on activities that also give them the safety skills they need (we'll be using a real, live pony the rest of the week, so they'll need to be practicing these skills!). Any ideas would be much appreciated!
