So after 3 weeks of it being too wet, flooding, storming, raining, etc to ride, I was finally able to get on my horse!
Yesterday I actually went over to a barn where a friend boards to video another friend riding our friends I-1 mare and ended up getting on and riding too. I-1 horse + 1st/2nd level rider = tired rider! My other friend came over later that afternoon to ride but I was really just too tired so I had her get on and ride Rex. Shes only ridden him one other time and it was like over 6 months ago and shes never cantered him.
Rex was fabulous esp for a just-turned 5 y/o who hasnt been worked in 3 weeks. I coached Sarah along, explaining all the little tidbits I got from Dean at the show, and they had a great ride.
Today my friend came back out and rode my boarders gelding and then videoed me riding Rex. Rex was picture perfect just like the day before. Im really hoping our little bump in the road is over with. We were having issues with him getting frusterated and pissy and sucking back b/c I felt like he was dictating the ride and I was really just not comfortable at the tempo he was and I was basically holding him back so he wouldnt be silly when in fact I never gave him the chance to prove me wrong and be good. This really came to a head at the show when he was VERY reactive and forward and of course I wanted to hold him back but Dean made me put my legs on and hands forward and RIDE. All of a sudden I had confidence that yes I could ride him forward and be in control. I mentally was ready to apply this new knowledge but havent been able to due to the weather.
We had a great ride. Came out and w/t/c. About 20 mins and then done. He did everything I asked and he also was worked pretty well the day before so I didnt need anything else from him.
So here are some pics of my bestie riding Rex (her name is Sarah) and then pics of me riding. Im working on getting a video clip or two up but it keeps freezing and wont upload (its not even 4 min long!)
