Default Quarter Horse Hunter Derbies at Ky Horse Park June 23.

Letting everyone know that there will be another Quarter Horse Hunter Derby coming up in June at the Kentucky Horse Park. There always are many people riding and showing Quarter Horses that pop up on COTH in the H-J forum threads, so here is something for you to try.

    Open and Non Pro , 3' - 3'3":

New! Select (Ammy Over 50) and Novice, 2'6":
    http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php...type=1&theater

These Derbies are separate events, run at selected AQHA shows, but organized and sponsored by a group of interested individuals, so no official AQHA points. These classes are fun, with quality fences and judges.

I believe there is one this coming week in Oklahoma City at the Redbud Spectacular Circuit, May 31 to June 10.
" NEW UPDATE NEW DERBY ADDED TO THE SCHEDULE!!! Due to popular demand we are proud to announce there will be a Huntfield AQHA derby at the Redbud Spectacular this June in Oklahoma City. The first round will be held in barn 6 on the middle show day. The handy round will be in the Performance Ring the last day of showing the hunters. Thank you to Redbud for sponsoring this event and we are looking forward to another Robert Barton course. "

Can't make it up there this week, unfortunately

Hopefully I will be able to make it to some AQHA shows next year. For now I'll have to stick to the "regular" hunters.

I wish they would have one in Katy. Especially with the Select one.

Another exciting development in this first year of the Huntfield AQHA Derby Series, is that the finals will be held during the AQHA Fed Ex Open World Show in November in Oklahoma City. There are a host of generous sponsors offering lots of wonderful prizes, including 3 Butet saddles. Trainers David Warner and Lainie DeBoer have worked hard this year to bring this beautiful class to quarter horse competitors and it seems to have sparked a renewed interest in the hunters.

    Gosh that sounds fun!

I wish they would have a 2'6" derby for non pros at the hunter shows and I wish I still had my quarter horse so I could do these AQHA shows!

I just want to make sure I'm getting this right - they're at AQHA shows but are not AQHA sponsored so no points, right?

I wish they would let APHA horses compete in it then. I think we can all admit the only difference between an AQHA horse and a APHA horse is the color. Now with the new registration rules I have seen loud colored overo "Quarter Horses." Oh well, that's just my wish.

Kudos for the AQHA! I wish the APHA would do something like it, but I don't think there would be enough interest.

I would assume so as long as they are registered with the AQHA.

    Yes!

And for Overo Hunter - Good question on the paints, except that these Derbies are tagged onto AQHA circuits, so a Paint would only have the Derby to show in. Some circuit managers, knowing that many trainers haul both these days, combine APHA and AQHA shows at large venues, like the Reichert. An opportunity there.

The effort to start these events was not AQHA, but a couple of hard working trainers and their clients/sponsors, David Warner and Lainie DeBoer. Kudos to them!

Got excited untill saw they had to be AQHA registered. Wish they allowed non-registered quarter horse types. Mines from a broker and visably has a lot of QH bloodlines. Supposidly sold with papers, but of course they never came with the horse... Even if I did have papers I don't agree with AQHA politics so she would not be registered anyway.

There are 37 entries for the Huntfield Derby at the Redbud Show in OKC. Draw party in an hour, first round tomorrow. That's a fantastic response from exhibitors and those involved are excited about this great support!
