I knew Burney clear back in the late '60's, like 1969. He drove a little pickup which he'd outfitted with an anvil. I think he was going to be a vet, took up shoeing to make ends meet, did so well, he abandoned vet school and stuck with shoeing. He was a great shoer but as a human being, nasty SOB.

Funny, none of us farriers had any trouble getting along with Burney, but I'll admit he didn't suffer fools well or gladly; in fact, he could be downright nasty to 'em. On the plus side, he was a pioneer in the trade and he shared his knowledge freely. He contributed greatly to farriery's body of knowledge.

The last I heard, one of his kids is still shoeing. Blaine, maybe?? I don't remember which one but he's done my daughter's horses.

Both of Burney's boys are still shoeing.

I don't know what has happened to Linda. They divorced because he was so nasty.

Like yourself, I don't know why they divorced, but she was crying at his funeral.

But, as a shoer?? The absolute best for lame horses. Bar none.

One of the best. There are no superlatives in farriery.
