    Default PentAussie (yes, another thread...)

    I swear I searched

What dose & frequency is everyone using for PentAussie specifically (not regular Pentosan)?

It seems to be a bit all over the place. My vet recommended 6ml every two weeks with no loading dose. But looks like some are using 12ml - or even more in some cases, but I'm not clear on how often they are using that amount.

So, just curious what others are having success with...

I know I'm giving 6 mL every 4 weeks now, I think I did 6 mL weekly for 3-4 weeks to start off. I posted in the other PentAussie thread a month or two ago, it's around here somewhere... My instructor said she saw a difference, now that my horse is hurt and can't be ridden, it is hard to say.

If you do the math, 6mL is not enough. According to the research (if you believe it), the correct dose is 3 mg/kg - kg being the horse's weight. This turns out to be about 1363 mg for a 1000 pound horse; the 12 mL vial of Pentaussie contains 1500 mg.

    Here is more info:

One single-dose vial of Pentosan is 6mL and contains 1500 mg, but one vial of Pentaussie is 12 mL and also contains 1500 mg of Pentosan. Clear as mud? I think people are mistakenly thinking that 6mL of Pentaussie contains the same amount as the 6mL of Pentosan.

I haven't used PentAussie yet but I have done quite a bit of research on it and my vet offers it ( I plan to try it this summer). She has had success with a number of her clients who didn't have marked response to Adequan or Legend. The above is correct, 12ml is a single dose for an average sized horse. My vet recommends the loading dose of 4 12ml IM doses (1 shot every 4 days I believe? ) and then using 1 12ml dose as needed after that.
