Oh man! What a day! My trainer and I headed off to one of the big horse parks in our area to school cross-country for the first time on my green bean OTTB mare.
This is my first time cross-country school *ever* and I think I am hooked.
After only having schooled over fences 4 times in the ring at home, having a horse that was nervous on the trailer, looking around at stuff in the schooling ring before we headed out on X-C, I was really happy with how things went.
Some of the jumps were rough to start, but we worked through them, figured out to save the situation and then got better with every fence. We did lots of logs, piles of railroad ties, banks (up and down) and ended on the same stuff that we started out on, but had them rock solid.
The hardest part was remembering to breath!!! Given my horse's age and inexperience at this sort of thing, she's definitely *not* a packer, but she is very eager to try, if somewhat amped up on x-c. What makes this exciting though is feeling like I'm learning how to really ride and deal with difficult circumstances.
Hot-!bleep! this is fun!!!
Anyone else have their addiction come on this suddenly?!
