Default Okay to wear my CO Pro II for dressage?

I have an event coming up in less than two weeks and I am stuck with either wearing my Pro II (that fits) for all three phases or wearing my Troxel Grand Prix (doesn't fit well or look very nice on me) for dressage and stadium. Sadly a new show helmet isn't in the budget right now.

So what do you all think about wearing skull caps for all three phases?

I see plenty of people that do it. They just use a solid black cover with the brim straight and not up.

^^Yeah, I've seen that as well. Wear whatever fits. It's not worth a risk to your brain bucket otherwise.

That's all I ever wear in dressage and show jumping. Black satin cover. http://www.bitofbritain.com/Satin_He...ers_p/0344.htm

Oh my how times change ... since when is a skull cap no longer considered a "show helmet"?!
If it's approved, it's a show helmet. They certainly look better with covers (IIRC rules state the cover needs to be blue or black for dressage, so not a fun XC cover) but regardless, it works.

absolutely - I used to run all 3 phases in my skull cap (through Int.), though I did keep a black satin cover on it. It was comfortable and workmanlike - nothing wrong with that!

Agreed with everyone else- I've seen many people wear a skull cap all three phases, up through Preliminary.

Good luck at the show! I expect updates (:

That's what I do too! Same cover I bought a show hunter approved AR8 for dressage when they banned hunt caps, but its not as comfortable as my skull cap, so I just wear that.

You will not be out of place in your skull cap!

Thanks guys . I personally have not seen many people use their skull cap for all three phases, except for at schooling events.

PurdaVidaEventing- I'll make sure to post how it goes! I'm psyched!

The only reason for that is vanity. The judge is not looking at your helmet, they are very very busy looking at things that matter.

Just curious, what DO you see them wear? What do you consider a "show helmet"? Something with a skunk stripe, like a GPA? Something with a velveteen surface?

Around here, I would say the all-black "suede" type IRH or CO helmets with the little silver badge in front are the most common for dressage, and very common for stadium. You see more skulls with black covers in stadium, though. That said, I don't think anyone really thinks twice, and I am personally just glad to see helmets on everyone now.

I wear mine for all 3 phases
My velvet (or whatever it is) covered one became so old that I am sure it was useless, so I chucked it and I saw no reason to buy a helmet that I was only going to wear for 30 minutes 6 or 7 times a year for dressage phases at competitions- especially when there was no reason not to wear my skull cap

I wear my CO GR8 (black suede) for dressage and show jumping, as well as schooling at home.

We eventers are a funny bunch, aren't we? We pride ourselves as being above the fashion fray of H/J and dressage, but worry about a little thing like helmets!

Are you going to wear a skull cap with a cover (what cover?), a "skunk stripe" helmet like a GPA or GR8, or a plastic vented helmet? And once you've decided that, there's all the other fashion questions to follow ...

Skull cap: Helmet-cover brim worn up or down (and is it my imagination, or are the brims getting longer as it becomes trendy to wear them flipped up?), or go with the total current fashion and raise not only the brim but the cover itself to make sure an inch or so of the front of the helmet is exposed as well?

Skunk stripe: Is your helmet plain or colored? Your vent/stripe plain or colored or blinged?

Plastic vented: Is a shiny plastic Troxel a dorky beginner's helmet but a plastic Tipperary au courant?

There are a lot of CO's (or CO look alikes), "classic" black hunt velveteen type show helmets, of course the IRH's with the silly stripes, and the odd GPA.
I personally wear my Pro II for all three phases at schooling events . Coming up will be my mare and I's first recognized event, so I wasn't sure if I would be fine to go around in my skull cap for all three. So I am glad to hear it is perfectly exceptable .
