Default best show coat color for a black pony?

Hi all, my dd is showing a pony she doesn't usually show at Upperville and the pony is black with some brown on her nose and inside her hind legs. DD has an olive grey coat, a medium blue/grey and a classic navy plaid. I'm not sure I love any of them on her, I'm not a big fan of the blues with her dark coat. I would like to find a charcoal but not having luck. I don't think I like the lighter greys, but wondering what you all think. I have also found a black plaid, but worried the overall picture will be too dark.

This would be for Upperville and other local rated shows this summer so can't go too wild on colors, but anyone have suggestions? I do like her in the olive grey because it's a little different and I'd like her to stand out a bit, she'll be showing the local pony hunters, but I know it's Upperville where tradition reigns Any ideas?

I like a blue-grey on a black horse, it kind of lightens up the picture. Here is mine (ignore horse's "I hate flatwork" face please): http://pets.webshots.com/photo/11408...53911905EncPDP

I have a sort of light blueish gray that I like on dark horses. It's a bit more light blue than the pic suggests.

those are both very pretty. Her medium grey/blue is a bit darker and more navy. I want one like yours (both of yours!).

I have a French blue coat that I really like on my dark-brown-almost-black horses.

    Charcoal would also be pretty.

If you're not opposed to buying used, I would hunt around on ebay.

DD wore a light gray coat on her black mare and it looked nice. Now she's got a dark charcoal that looks even better. Just a little contrast but not out there.

I used to wear a light grey jacket with my blue roan. I also like french blue and light olive.

Why not the light olive? A light olive with a dark pony would look great IMO.

I'm leaning that way actually, althought it is quite "green"... and everyone always says how conservative Upperville is, though last year I saw lots of lighter greys and even browns placing.

    Thanks all!

I would definitely opt for the blue-grey-charcoal family. It will look elegant and traditional. Have the monogram on her ratcatcher match the jacket for a totally polished look!

That's just silly. No reputable judge pins based on hunt coat color.

Of course that's not what I meant... I was told to stick with navy last year and the kid that won her class had a light grey coat on, my point was that it didn't matter the color of the coat, navy or not.
