Smile Mystery of horse taming 'solved' by gene study

Horses were domesticated 6,000 years ago on the grasslands of Ukraine, southwest Russia and west Kazakhstan, a genetic study shows.

The work, by a Cambridge University team, brings together two competing theories on horse domestication.

My parents did that National Geographic DNA thing that traces your genes and Dad's Y chromosome traced to the steppes "where it is thought horses were first domesticated." When Mom showed me that report I was like "See? I always wanted a pony, I HAD to have one. It's GENETIC."

There is new evidence that dogs have been domesticated as long ago as 100, 000 years ago. As a breeder and trainer of dogs I have to say that is more discouraging.

Crap! My take on the title was that I could just have some sort of simple, painless but expensive gene therapy and suddenly become competent as a trainer.
