AAJumper: You had asked about good deals on golf carts both new and repossessd. Try Western Golf Cart. In fact, I just got a good deal on one that had been repossessed. They pick them up and completely recondition them and will paint them if you need to change from the standard green.

When we were at Lake Placid we saw a Corgi and JRT guarding a cart by the food stand...growling and snapping and pulling on their leashes whenever anyone got too close. Definitely a good security system!

About two years back a bunch of kids at our barn decided to rent a golf cart for the weekend. Of coarse that wasnt entirly a good idea because we were not the best behaved children. Well earlier that weekend we had driven up to this indoor areana on the property that we werent supposed to go to. We didn't get caught but we did tell one of the trainers about it and she wanted to come up with us to see because we had found a bunch of huge trucks in the indoor and a bunch of unloaded Casino machines adn those gambling tables that you find in Vegas !!! Well of coarse there is this security guy that had been watching us all weekend and he followed us up there in his golf cart. He gave us and the trainer a lecture about not going in restricted places and so on but was nice and let us off with a warning. We were some what better for the rest of the weekend.
Anyways the guy always wore shiney sunglasses so we called him Mr. shiny glasses and when we drove past him we would yell, " Hi Mr. Shiny Glasses", and he would wave back!!

There was no mention in the report that Shatner's hairpiece was "beamed up" in the fracas!

Okay, I shall now reveal my own story... *sigh*...

I venture out to this well-known breeding farm/training stable up in the hills. I'm there to drop off a horse we sold. I leave it in this huge paddock on the side of a hill. The owner/trainer tells me to go back and toss some hay to the horse so it settles down. But it's about a 1/2 mile hike, so she tells me, "Take the golf cart. There's a flake of hay in the back."

How could I tell her that I'm not, well, golf cart user-friendly?

I sit in the cart for 2 or 3 minutes acquainting myself. Then I slowly get it going up the hill to the paddock. But I can't find the brake! I'm out in the hinterlands at this ranch, teetering on this hillside, with one foot in the golf cart and another foot outside, balancing a flake of hay in my left hand, my right hand on the steering wheel. All I can think of is I'm going to toss the hay, it'll hit the fence and make a mess, and the cart will roll back down the hill without me and slam into the ranch house.

I count "one, two, three!" and throw the hay, jump back in and grab the steering wheel just as the cart begins to roll. When I get back to the house, I'm asked, "Why are you all covered in hay?" I wasn't about to explain my adventure. It was like a scene in Mission Impossible.

Actually Merry, it was more like a scene from "The Gods Must Be Crazy"

AAJumper.... the best place to shop here in the south of California is at Saddleback Golf Carts in Lake Forrest (El Toro). I think their number is (949) 837-1274 and the guy to talk to is Mike. He is a great guy and will go out of his way to help you.

The repossessed ones are the best and they sure will make people who don't have one jealous, maybe a bunch of you could get together and buy one together...beats riding a little bicycle sometimes.

    DIFFERENT SUBJECT....
The saddest golf cart story relates to the accident at Indio involving Gretchen Tank. Here in Southern California we all know Gretchen as a kind, gracious lady who is about the best ground person around, she helps several of the top hunter/jumper and Grand Prix riders here. She doesn't ride anymore and has some old injuries. ANYWAY>>>>>>>>>> She was washing the mud off her golf cart all by herself in the back area of the Indio grounds when she leaned across and a brush fell on the gas pedal.....Mock speed later she was hurt REALLY bad!!!!! Went to a very involved and extensive surgery and is still recovering from it..... If any of you know her and want to call, her embarassment is killing her more than the injury!!!!

If you need ground help, call her, she is the best, although she is too "proud" (arn't we all) to bring this up, she chuckles!!!!

PS sorry if I mis-spelled anything

OK, I'll bite. What the heck is "YSOD"? Best I can do is a line from some gravel company ... as in, YSOD when you can just put down rocks on that lawn.

Thanks for the info khobstetter...I'll pass it on to my friend. As for repossessed (green??? ) ones being the best, I doubt that...better deal, possibly, but not functionally any better. Just the opportunity to get a newer one at a better price (hopefully). Personally, I prefer a bicycle to a golf cart. They are just as fast, you get exercise, and you don't get stuck in those golf cart traffic jams near Sandland in Indio.

That was very tragic what happened to Gretchen, however I'm not sure she'd want her financial situation discussed online. But she is a great groundperson...and she's very specific about exactly how things are to be set. I always get just a little nervous about doing it just right when I set jumps for her. She's super nice too, and I also highly recommend her to anyone interested in high quality ground help!

But have you seen the little Mercedes golf carts? They're maaaaaahvelous, dahlings.

I always said that if I won the Lotto when it was reeeeeeeeally big, I would buy my stable, a Mercedes golf cart and a roll of orange stickers. Then I would go around and put stickers on all the stalls of people who had to shape up or ship out (whiners, unsafe people and slobs).

Beezer is quaking. Beezer can just envision MERRY wanting to get one of those ... which Beezer would then be required to put together and which would no doubt have to come with its own awning!! Well, I've got a few stories:

    Number 1:

Ok, this took place at an a rated show at the NM state fairgrounds. One thing you must understand about the NM Fairgrounds is that it is located in the ghetto. So, two of these kids sneak into the fairgrounds from the ghetto, andsneak onto the golf carts owned by the show manager. So, my trainer and I hop into closestgolfcart and chaseafter them, seizing them, and turning them into the authorities.

    I think I win, lol.

    Number 2

Ok, this is an a2 show in colorado. We3 are hading up to the large pony model class. I sit in the back seat of golf cart and lead my pony from there. mY slowpoke pony constantly pulls away, pulls me off the cart, and I land on my ars, ontop of a pointy rock. So that hurt...

    Number 3

My large pony got onto the golfcart. He walked onto it and stepped on the pedat, spooked himself, and walked off the other side.

    Do I win?

Beezer should quake, although it does come ready assembled!!

    YSOD!!!

hmmm... awning... what a clever thought! Casey the Scooter Dog and I were getting awfully hot mowing down unsuspecting denizens of the horse show grounds!

You know, I once had a red scooter that I rode across town from my house to El Ranchito before Norco (aka "Horse Town, USA") got so huge that it gained its own Starbucks and Target.

However, I did get a ticket on my little red scooter... for not stopping completely at the intersection. That kind of took the fun out of the whole scooter experience.
