Default Need jingles for my bunny

My bunny, Sammie, is having a rough night and could use all the jingles she could get. I adopted her a little less than a year ago, and was told she was "4 or 5" then. Tonight she is not her usual self - she's having trouble with her back legs, and is showing no interest in her treats - not at all a good sign. There are no emergency clinics around here to treat rabbits, so I'll be calling the vet first thing in the morning to get her in. Things aren't looking good.

Jingles headed your way, but after MANY years of pet bunnies - including several that were "house bunnies" - I really want you to steel yourself for the worst. There are SO many things that can happen - none of them your fault - that can go awry when bunnies reach old age.

Just keep her comfortable & know that all the animal lovers here have her in their thoughts.

Bacardi, thank you. I'm pretty sure I know what's coming, and there have been lots of tears here tonight. It's amazing how attached I've gotten to her in a short year. I've had a bunny before, and know just how quickly things can go downhill. She's not herself at all... but as I write this she's just hopped across the floor, very close to being "normal." Ugh. But she's not eating. She's not right. This is going to be a long night.

Thank you everyone! By some miracle, Sammie not only made it through the night, but was dramatically improved by this morning. She's still not eating normally, but is eating, and seems to have no difficulty with her hind end at the moment. She had a trip to the vet today, and he said that everything checks out ok physically - nothing tweaked in her back or hind end, or broken, no distended abdomen - all good things. She has another appointment tomorrow morning with a small animal specialist to try to get a diagnosis.

So, all of your jingles are appreciated, and please, keep jingling! We're not out of the woods yet, but I'm honestly quite surprised that she's still here at all, let alone doing what I would consider to be "fairly well." Fingers crossed.

    I hope bunny is improving.

Hind leg problems in rabbits can also be due to parasite or bacterial infection, and there are treatments for these things.

    Good luck with the specialist.

Well, things are looking up! Thank you for the jingles! The specialist checked her out, and said he *believes* he can feel a hairball in her abdomen, and that it may be causing an infection. He gave sub q fluids, put her on an antibiotic, and has given me instructions to force feed her for the next few days if need be. He's also given me a hairball remedy. She's perkier, and he said she wasn't dehydrated, and as I'm sitting here she's munching quite happily on her hay. He believes it's either a hairball, or cancer - gave me the option to xray, but we've decided to treat through the weekend and then see. If she improves, then it was a hairball. Fingers crossed she keeps improving! I'm just so pleased to still have her with me, and looking so good. Her attitude is about normal, and she's once again exploring my room. I thought that Wednesday night was going to be it.

Thank you everyone! Sammie is doing INCREDIBLY well this morning - she hopped right out of her cage as soon as I opened it, and while up on my bed with me she's rearranging my comforter and incessantly bumping me "out of the way" with her nose like she used to do! She's also feeling good enough to make giving her her medicine a true struggle - but we managed. She's eating her hay (more) and drinking more water, and even tried to play with the cat - I've been keeping him away from her, but she hopped right up to him and started a game of "tag" - so all signs are looking up right now. (yes, they truly do play tag - one will chase the other, and then they'll switch. This is supervised, and very gentle, as they seem to have an understanding about it. I stopped this particular game as I want her to have a few days before really egging him on!) Thank you for the jingles!!

Just a final update: Thank you EVERYONE for all of your jingles! Sammie is back to her normal self, and has been for almost 48 hours now. She's doing super well, full appetite is back, and we have a few more days of medicine to go. I'm so glad that this thread has a happy outcome! So, this will be my last update - a celebratory *cheer* and thank you all!
