I took the black mini, who is the leader in my tandem, out to his very first show! It was also my first time showing driving! Woot woot! It was a great day, and the little tyke was exemplary. At one point during warm up, we were in the arena being passed on both sides by all the riding horses. I felt like a little eco car being stuck between speeding semis. lol. He didn't spook and never put a foot out of line. His efforts for the day earned him a 1st (in reinsmanship), 2nd (cones), and 3rd (pleasure). lol. Right across the board.
We also competed against my husband with his experienced hackney that we love and adore, who of course got all the other blue ribbons available. lol.
I think I am disappointed with my driving outfit. I think I thought it looked better than it actually does, so I may need to revamp things for the next show. Of course, it's theme is green, so it will match with Chewbacca and his theme color. I even just got a green ultralight whip, and I LOVE IT. SoOO much easier on my wrist, it's amazing.
In a couple weeks, my 2nd driving show is coming up! An ADT, that I am hoping to take Chewbacca to, although he recently lost his shoe, developed an abscess, and is still lame after 8 days. If he gets sound I'll start him back, otherwise, he may have to miss this show, and I'll compete with my husband's hackney instead.
And, since I haven't posted anything to do with the tandem in a while, here is a video (from last month) of the minis tandem... doing some barrels, and showing off that their steering is really great. I'm quite happy with how they work together. This was their 7th drive together. They've now had 11.
I think you look fantastic, and I love the little guy. However, I feel the bright blue harness pads overwhelm him (both color and size) and contrast too much with your outfit. I would consider a set of black waffle pads, which (at least on my big mini) are less obtrusive.
Both Jesse and your husband's hackney are beautiful, and I think with a bit more harmonious padding, you two will give them a run for those blue ribbons.
