    Default 2-Horse BP Trailer Woes

I'm having a VERY hard time finding a used 2-horse, bumper-pull trailer with a ramp in decent condition at a reasonable price. I've looked online at a number of sites, including Craigslist. Do you all have any suggestions for sites that may have used trailers for sale? I'm looking south of VA and west to TX.

Have you tried horse trailer world? What kind of price range are you looking for?

Why don't you just buy your 2 horse of your dreams, or rather what you can afford, then put a ramp on it. EASY.

What do you consider a reasonable price? You can get a decent used trailer in this area for $3-$5K.

I am right there with you. Have had a terrible time and can qualify for a loan to buy new, but I hate being in debt so have been searching for something under 5K. Around here everything has mangers and is 6 to 6'6" tall. I've had to modify my search to include stock trailers and 3-horse trailers that are 7' tall since 7'6" is a fantasy. I think right now just isn't the time to be buying trailers since people are using the good ones and just trying to get rid of the junk in the pasture that they don't use anymore. I don't know if I can wait until this fall, but I'm hoping that this fall some will come on the market. Right now there is an equispirit in FL that fits my criteria and is just barely under 5k, but I don't think I really want to drive that far for a trailer because what if it doesn't work out and it's not in the condition it's advertised, I will have just spent $400 on gas to get there and back with nothing to show for it... trailer shopping woes.

Here $3k-$5k gets you a beer can on wheels (unless you come across that PERFECT deal before anyone else)...if you can stretch your budget to more like $8k you have a much broader range of trailers.

Ive been searching for a decent 2 horse straight load with dressing room for a while...I did find a used Trail-et in S. AL that I would jump on in a second if it was close enough to drive down and check it out in person before commiting to it.

    Default Yep.

I'm trying to stay under $5k. Saw one last fall for $5k with a dressing room and was in decent shape. I was only shopping casually and I didn't want a dressing room, so I passed. It was gone in less than 2 weeks. I'm in GA, so going to NJ for a trailer isn't going to happen. I have family traveling west to TX this month and they can bring a trailer home, if I find one between here and there. Still not having any luck. Installing a ramp is a good idea. Never thought of that. Wonder what that costs all-in?

I traded in a Brenderup last summer for a slant load BP to accomodate my new princess. I had some price flexibility, and got lucky, but the dealer in Ocala said that sales of the smaller trailers were quite strong; people downsizing from bigger rigs due to economy. I just checked the sites of the two Ocala dealers and they have next to nothing used, and the couple that are there are well over $5k

You need to look in south Texas. A friend just bought an older aluminum/fiberglass 2H straight with dressing room for 3K. It needs a bit of work, but nothing major.

Did your friend find the trailer from a dealer or private seller? I've been looking on Craigslist and Horsetrailerworld. Not sure where else to look.

I just bought a very well maintained older (95) 2H BP with a ramp for $2000.

However I searched a LONG time and looked at a lot of overpriced crap before I found it.

I was literally stalking craigslist and HTW multple times a day. Try doing a google search with horse trailer and your location - it will come up with some resources you might not have thought of.

This is where I found mine: http://www.virginiaequestrian.com/ma...fieds&CatID=20

You have to be quick though - seems like everyone is looking for exactly the same thing as you.

Keep your eye on www.nchorsenews.com (North Carolina). I didn't see what you want right now but by scrolling through the recently sold ones I saw 3-4 2-horse BP with ramps listed not long ago so they do get them. It's a very active site and the trailers tend to go quickly so stay current on it. Good luck.

My issue when trailer shopping a while back, was, especially on Craigslist, people were pricing trailers on what it was worth to them, not the actual "blue book" value of it.

I noticed that trailers are being priced for probably what they bought them new for a few years back, but because of the increase of new trailer prices, it looks like they are priced below the cost of new. I have been casually shopping for a while so it's kind of funny to see, but not really since now that I'm really looking to buy, I'm actually shocked that they aren't flexible on their price.

I sold a 2006 2 horse featherlite in December...no tack room, for $5600 after reducing it from $6k...found it on Craigslist last month for sale again for $8900...this month shes marked it down to $7700.

I think people know there are others shopping for 2 horse bumper pulls and just want to make $$$$$...hoping to get a hold of someone who is tired of looking and just wants to buy SOMETHING!!

I just used "All of Craigs" search and then used the South region and Advanced search of under $5000 to find the trailer in the first link.

I just bought a new to me trailer in March so I know exactly where you are right now. My husband, a good friend and I scoured the adds on line to find trailers. Many of them went fast.

    Best of luck.

Default Thanks to all of you.

I actually emailed the link for the trailer on Craigslist in Canton. Never got a response. May have found one, but doesn't have a title. Will cause a little bit of a headache. Waiting on seller to respond. Still shopping though.

I would love to know "blue book " on trailers - where do you get one?!
I am considering selling vs keeping my Merhow 2h straight load Verylite trailer. SUPER trailer, horses love it, ramp, no tack area, no mangers, full walk through escape doors, my 17.2-18hh (WB) tall guys like it (and it is only 7'tall), rubber mats, insulated ceiling. No bells and whistles but just great little trailer! I have heard/seen them advertised 700-3500. Would love to know the "real" price to help me decide to sell or keep as an extra.
Horses should be trained in such a way that they not only love their riders, but look forward to the time they are with them.

    Bascule7,
That's one of the issues we found with many of the craig's list adds. The items were sold when we called or emailed, or the posters never got back to us, so we assumed the item had been sold.
