I traded a bicycle for a Big Horn 110 Roper in '94. Used it lightly for a year, then kept it in storage until a couple of weeks ago. My mare had put on a bit of weight during a lay-up, which caused my CC saddle to not be a comfortable fit, and the girth a bit too short. I pulled out my Big Horn and re-discovered how comfortable it is. So much so, that yesterday I bought a new pad and headstall to go with it.
Does that mean I should hang onto mine? I had one come with
a horse I bought, I've not used it myself, but it seems a
sturdy leather/codura mix saddle. Not in bad shape, I was
thinking of selling it, but I keep seeing people say they like
them and they are comfy. I guess I'll have to try it out.
Ditto on what Wellspotted posted...that's the one I got as well. I've tried it on my new little pony and also my larger mare and it works nicely for both horses...very comfy, too, and the horses both seem very happy with it. AND I cannot believe how light it is to handle! I am really glad I got it.
Certainly worth a look for those who are thinking of synthetic, or like me, cannot handle the heavier western saddles.
