Default Bruised Heels - Magic Cushion

My gelding did a swell job of ripping a shoe off and now has a bruised heel. My farrier has replaced the shoe and added a pad to it to alleviate the bruise, however he's still lame.

My trainer suggested using Magic Cushion but everything I see says to not have a pad on, which he does have already. Thoughts on how to add this to already padded up feet?

My guys are barefoot, so I'm not 100% about this information, but I believe you can use magic cushion under a shoe.

My trimmer recommended it in very dry weather when my flat footed gelding was a little sore. She said that it could be left on for several days without harm and people used it under shoes. Thankfully the gelding never got sore enough that I felt the need to use it (and is ok on hard ground now that his feet are in better shape!).

I would think the shoe/pad would have to come off to apply the magic cushion.

What about soaking in Epsom salts instead?

Definitely have to put the Magic Cushion UNDER the pad. Maybe Epson Salts or Animalintex?

You would need to take the pad off at least. I don't think you want to put MC on the heel bulb or skin area AT ALL, just the hoof. It is pretty harsh stuff directly on skin.
