    Red face Body Clip Lines

Okay... soooo my horse got a butchered body clip job from a friend who had never body clipped before due to rain rot on his head and neck and being too dang fluffy! (She wouldnt let me clip due to the fungus and me being pregnant didnt want me risking anything) Well, it wasnt the prettiest thing... legs still fluffy and only the front half done... poor boy looked ridiculous but she had gone through two clippers bogging out on her from his fluff!

Fast forward a few months. Horse finally gets fully body clipped by someone who knows what they are doing! Yay! He looks great and is very happy to be nekky in this heat. BUT you can still see the trace lines from the previous clipping session! Not pretty! He is two different colors I assume this is from the sun or something?

He is a chestnut and it stands out pretty good (along with his mohawk growing in unevenly! gah!) Any idea on how long it would take to get back to normal? Or do I have to wait for the next shedding session? Is there something I can put on him to help with the color? He has gotten many scrubbing baths so this isnt a case of the dirties! I am hoping to show him some this season, mostly local, but you never know...It doesnt bother me that bad... i'd just like to know the answer
Looking for horse(or dog) portraits? Check out Equinewoods, a good friend of mine and an amazing artist! Tell her Clancy the warmblood sent ya

My pony used to turn the ugliest colours after clipping. Just horrible. Made even worse by the fact that we usually did trace or blanket clips so you could see both hair colours. Even when he had completely shed out you could almost always still see the colour difference, especially if you knew it was there (he's black and would turn this horrible mousy grey colour).
Never got around to trying "Black as Knight" (I believe there's a chestnut equivalent) because it was so expensive and couldn't be used on showing horses.
Anyways, a friend turned me onto whole flax. His coat in general became pretty amazing after starting it. Right after clipping his coat would be much closer in colour than it used to be, and I found when his spring coat grew in it looked much better, less like he had been clipped at all. It's been a few years since I've clipped the little bugger, but the flax has continued to keep his coat much nicer than it ever was (even with lots and lots of grooming).

Depending on what coat your horse currently has it might be too late to start on whole flax, or you might have enough time before the next time he sheds... really depends on your horse and the temperature I guess
