My dressage trainer's trainer is from Germany.

At a clinic at my farm, he once told a student who was working on the sitting trot, that she looked like "a reluctant virgin".

"We'll, personally, I'm glad you are looking at the ground. You know thats where you are going to end up, might as well make sure you land somewhere comfy"

(After the most disasterous horse show in history) Trainer-OK, so we have a goal for our next performance
Me- Not humilating myself again?
Trainer- No, thats a little too high

(After throwing my body viciously towards my horses head at the base of a rather large oxer, and having my horse save me)
" I know you are having some personal problems, but seriously hun, suicide is not the answer"

How about, I finally approach the correct position in my saddle and my post trot is more correctly vertical (think dressage.) I tell my trainer this. She responds...

"You need to fall in love with the front of your saddle."

Excuse me, ... that's GROSS.

And I told her so. That's the stupid kind of remark a GUY would make. Geesh. My trainer had a funny one yesterday. He set a long five line for us, and you had to maintain a forward, galloping pace around the corner to get down it smoothly. Trying to describe the pace to someone, he said:

You don't have to run like Indians are chasing you, but just gallop on!

I had never done real steeplechase before, and was a bit concerned that my QH wouldn't be quite fast enough.

Trainer: "Go as fast as you have never gone before!"

I did. And came in 15 seconds early!

Trainer: "Hell, I'll never tell you THAT again!"

Walking the course--
at a difficult combination: "Just get over it."
at the water: "Create an argument! Grr! Bounce, Bounce!"
later, coming downhill: "Here's where you may need to float some teeth."

While riding my adorable gray pony at a schooling show at my barn, one of my pony's nickname is Mushi,
"Come on Mushi, bring it on home to daddy!"
While setting a course, "Oops I did it again, I played with your heart..."

And this is a guy.
