Team CEO has a new little eventer, but it took some doing...
Grasshopper's people, Megan and Howard Moore at Team CEO, have a new colt from one of their really good mares but it took some doing last night . From their Facebook....
"Rough, rough night. Coral's water broke at 10:52, but she never really fought to push. She was overdue at 362 days with what we'd already had the vet examine to be a very, very large foal.
His shoulders were physically too big to clear her hips, had a major shoulder dystocia. Tried to clear it but I couldn't. Got her on trailer at 11:25, had her to clinic in 8 minutes. (It's a 15 min drive.) Hit ...85 mph on the drive there with a 6h head to head trailer on a two lane road (oops). The last big bump dislodged baby and he shot out... Andrea CAUGHT him. I opened the trailer door at Rood & Riddle to baby being born, andrea and I caught him. (He outweighs the two of us put together).
Ran three red lights, multiple stop signs, drove in both lanes. Biggest foal I've ever seen---bigger than my WEANLINGS last year when weaned. They are both at ICU in Rood and Riddle, prayers and jingles. So far foal looks strong, but concerned for oxygen deprivation as the situation was very, very grave.
We thought we'd lost both of them at one point. Thank goodness Howard was staying the night so we had a third pair of hands, and thank goodness all three of us are pretty stoic in an emergency... May have saved both their lives tonight.
BTW, chestnut colt with four stockings and blaze, just like big bro Nemo."
Congratulations and whoosh hallelujah to mama, baby, and team CEO!

WOW! repeating what everyone is thinking - wow. Great visuals with the big honking trailer careening down those KY roads!
The story gives credence to the 'take her for a ride down a gravel road in the dump truck' idea that my husband tried with me to induce a very overdue and large baby!
Best wishes for mare and foal, so fortunate to have the world's best vets so close by.

Just you wait and see.

Thanks, everyone. As of 5:00 p.m. yesterday, both were doing well and are scheduled to come home today as long as they continue to progress through the nite.
I know one thing, this colt is a fighter - even the vets commented on that! I don't think he knows "Working Student Bowling" yet but he sure did a good job in his first experience with "Vet Tech Bowling."
Pretty funny experience overall, after the fact (pretty intense and frightening during). Especially since it seems 1/2 of the world was watching us on mare stare as we fought to deliver the baby.

Count me in on the half that was watching the whole thing... well, up til they put Coral in a trailer anyway. Ya'll definitely deserve a beer (or 3) to make up for the adrenaline of the situation. will be looking for great updates to come.

Our cost per MB got so high that I had to pretty much give up Marestare. But I was sick this weekend so I indulged in checking a cam - turned out to be Coral's. So I was checking in regularly during the whole thing as well! I was really glad to see they both made it.
