Default CP charged in NJ....wonder if any settled cases

    http://www.ratemyhorsepro.com/equine...sar-parra.aspx

This was just posted at www.ratemyhorsepro.com. I was wondering about the other cases that have been settled by this trainer. I hear there have been several besides Don Ulrik...does anyone have information on him?

DutchSonofBell you did yourself no favor by asking/hiring mister Rev.Buck to file a complaint on your behalf.

Why haven't you filed a complaint yourself?

I have not hired nor asked a Rev.Buck to file this. I saw it posted at ratemyhorsepro.com and it was tweeted about. I have heard of other cases being settled without any public posting so I was curious if any had heard of the priors. Simple. I check the ratemyhorsepro.com site to see the new law and suits regarding horses.

    For folks here on COTH:
The majority of horse owners do not have a clue about their legal rights when it comes to trainers who abuse their horses.

A lawyer friend pointed some information out to me and I used it in an appropriate manner.

I am proud to have been the individual that brought about the investigation and that is why I have posted the documents. At least I took action, instead of the do nothing attitude of so many people.

FYI,there are other criminal complaints in the pipeline, and I pray that they to manifest the appropriate criminal charges.

Actually the majority DO have clue. It's the minority who choose to not to act, whether because of ignorance about what they are seeing, or intimidation.

Have to disagree a little on this, the horse industry is full of stories of clients who have been misrepresented on training or the purchase of a horse and do nothing. I would venture to guess most clients throw their hands in the air and use it as a lesson learned. This is same industry whos mantra is buyer beware; people look the other way all the time. As an example, the horse killing for insurance, some of the people involved still are in business.

If this story is true, I'm glad the trainer has been outed.

I don't understand this post or the link to the complaint. It didn't have any supporting information, just a record. Anyone can file a complaint whether factual or not. Also, I don't get the connection between CP and SpiritHorse/Rev.Buck or any other alias this person has.

    Can someone fill be in?

nsh - you are correct that anyone can file a complaint but in this case it was the Hunterdon County SPCA. I live in Hunterdon County NJ and seriously doubt they would do this unless they felt they had sufficient reasons and information upon which to base the complaint. Keep in mind that Hunterdon County is a very big horse area.

And I really feel it's not material as to who files. In the matter of horse abuse and how many disgusting and horrible situations we are reading about or seeing on the internet - better that the situations are investigated and ruled on and not just gossiped about in the web. We can't keep looking the other way.

" Such trainers as Mr. Cesar Parra, who use deceptive trade practices which involve abusive training techniques have destroyed the ability of competent non-abusive trainers to make a living training horses."

And do you feel that Mr. Parra has deprived you of potential clients?

Curious as to weather the SPCA involvement will make anyone take the issue more seriously? I mean it was hard to get people to take the video seriously.

For anyone confused, here is a link to the horse owner's website with some details.

What happened to that horse is tragic. However, the situation should be dealt with by the owners, the trainer and all of the respective parties and the appropriate legal/civil system. Stop bringing your fight onto COTH!

I'm a little confused. A while back, everyone was up in arms over the Alisija Z-G thing. I mean, really, really outraged. Just recently, there was practically a lynch mob wanting to tar, feather and hang the owners of 35 year old year horse because they had the nerve to list her for sale on CL.
But, we're all okaaaay with this William thing and think it should be kept under wraps? What am I missing here?

People love to go on and on about how "dirty" the world of horses has become and how someone should DO something. But, then when they hear or see something they'd rather not hear or see, they want to just cover it up and make it go away. If successful trainers who use less than humane methods to the detriment of their charges aren't cast into the light, we're condoning their behavior and complicit in the problem. The attitude of "Sssshhhh, don't talk about that here," will only get more animals and owners hurt, or worse. So what if you don't like Dragonharte. The pictures and videos I've seen make me believe something reprehensible happened to William at the hand of CP. Now it's up to him to prove otherwise. And it most definitely is public record once the charges have been made.

How horrible for that poor horse! Yes, I would certainly put that all over the place and let people know what kind of person CP is and what he did. He's lucky someone didn't shoot him. I hope they get a settlement, but nothing is enough. Success or being an Olympic competitor doesn't always denote integrity or character -- I know of someone who was also at that level that I would never allow one of my horses near and have turned down offers from him in the past for a mare.

Why should this not be brought to COTH? The appropriate actions seem to be taken. But if not for COTH I would not have heard about this.
I have been told by many people, several pros, that they would NEVER take a horse to this person, but for all I knew this was just BS.....now I am seeing it is not.
Everyone is entitled to hear all sides, IMHO.

I agree with the poster that said most owners don't have a clue and many that do turn a blind eye, all for the sake of "winning".

IMHO, again, this owner is trying to educate others to what happened, so it doesn't happen to someone else's horse.

I actually believe issues of horse abuse should be on EVERY horse website and in EVERY horse publication. That's right - put it out there in the light of day. The concept of saying it's inappropriate here makes no sense to me. I PRAY more disclosure will send a clear message to those who may consider abusing horses that people are watching and they will expose it.

I'm personally infuriated to read about horses with their heads tied down in the dressage world or tied to the ceiling all night in the reining world and every other sick, cruel method of abuse that some people come up with. I want every one of these situations EXPOSED. Many cases of horse abuse where the owners won cases - never had one word printed in any horse publications. So the old method of shhhhhhhh! don't talk about it failed terribly.

Those videos of William made me furious that so many horse people didn't know you don't pour cold water on a horse that's in shock or having a seizure. Would you do that to a friend? No - you'd have enough sense to know it could create more problems.

    And I don't give a Tinker's Hurrah - who brings charges.

And a BIG THANK YOU to Rate My Horse Pro for making copies of complaints and rulings available to everyone on their website.

    Default William PFF

I believe this is the horse in the case. What a horror story. I feel so terrible for William's mother. My heart aches for her.
