Yup...that time of year again! As of 2011, we were at 58 foals of which <drum roll please> 5 have been fillies and 53 have been colts :P.
Our lovely Hanoverian mare, Persis (Prince Optimus x Gabardine/Grundstein) - http://www.avalon-equine.com/persis.html is in foal to Goldmaker. She is at 336 days today, a decent sized bag, but still just sticky, yellow liquid. So, anyone care to guess? And while you're at it, come up with a name for me would ya?!
Here's hoping for a cooler, wetter summer this year! So far, Mother Nature is cooperating!
FWIW, everyone...I didn't ask what color we'd get as the ONLY option will be a palomino <smile>. Persis is chestnut and Goldmaker is cremello. My options are limited as in - on existent - with this cross. And colt? Yeah...probably. But I'm in my Zen place now. I'm okay with boys . I guess that's what happens when that seems to be all I get <lol>!
ER - you didn't specify if you were using a G for the first letter but maybe something on this list will jump out at you? We try to have a theme for baby names so tying in some mythological name was the first thing I thought of.
I'll vote for a palomino filly, 352 days. Good luck & best wishes for a safe foaling!
348 days. Filly (I am on your team LOL)
For a filly I like the name Pazit - Pazit means "gold." in Hebrew The name is derived of the word פָּז (paz), which means: pure gold, or anything that glimmers like gold.
If it is a colt (insert rolley eyes here) I like the name Goldstein
I wanted a colt out of a particular mare, begged for one, told everyone I wanted one. Then as mare began her last month, I realized I really really wanted to keep this foal and it made wayyy more sense if it were filly. So, I ended up with my heart set on a filly, plus I was not set up to deal with a stallion and I wanted this foal for my program. I had her name all picked out, the whole thing.
Yeah, it came out with a dang penis! Go figure. He's going to be one heck of a gelding though!
So Kathy if you really want a filly, you'll get one as soon as you decide you honestly want a colt out of a particular mare!
338 days today and in a holding pattern <rolling eyes>. Bag is full and tight, but only clear fluid.
<smile>..I'm okay with colts now. I used to want fillies because I wanted particular lines to cross back on Mannahttan, but now, I've got enough stallions to go with the Mannhattan daughters and enough mares to cross back to Mannhattan. So, it's all good . But, I must say, we "are" excited about this baby. Should be quite a looker!
