Our rescue greyhound would start screaming in pain sometimes, usually when he got up from his doggy bed but could be random. Heart-breaking -- he'd be looking at us and screaming but we couldn't touch him w/o making it worse.
He had a pinched nerve in the neck. Chiro helped, cortisone shot + chiro and he's been fine for 2+ years.
Libby Engel did his chiro, I think she's out your way.
Good luck!

Everyone is resting quietly
Started puppy on metro. Dosed up the big dog. I think the pain is under control now that the dose is high enough and has been consistent. Added sucralfate.
Am going to catch some sleep before the next round. Thanks everyone!

I'm also wishing all a full recovery.
Years ago, I noticed one of the dogs had a huge swelling in his neck and was drooling, I thought tooth but took him to the emergency vet in the middle of the night and he had a fork stuck in his throat, he must have swallowed it like a sword swallower but it took a few days off my life getting him taken care of.

More jingles your way!
Your big dog sounds like my parents' dog (a boxer/dalmatian mix): she typically moves well but at times will do something, an extra exuberant leap, jumping down from a couch/bed, a bad step, SOMETHING, and cry out in pain. It's usually centered around her hip/lower back. Of course, her last episode was on Christmas Eve and by the time we could get the vet to see her, it had resolved with just a treatment of painkillers my mother had on hand. My parents and the vet have never gone into any in-depth diagnostics, but the thought is something like a pinched nerve that occasionally causes episodes of pain.
Hoping you get some answers and relief soon!

I heard about some bad dog food from/made in China (all regular American name brand stuff) several weeks or a month or so ago.
I did note that what I feed wasn't on the list.
Could well be that. I can't remember which ones or the dates they said to look for.

Bump--
How are you and your dogs doing, EqT? Any good diagnosis on the big guy yet?
Also would love to know which dogfood/s you're talking about (PM me if you prefer?). I'm feeding mine Orijens + homecooking now. Was sadly surprised to discover as a result of this thread that a supposedly high quality food I used a couple years ago (Natural Balance) was on the long list of foods contaminated in the melamine disaster of 2007-- and now on the samonella list, too. Clearly, selecting posh feeds from pet boutiques is not the answer
