I don't know what kind of damage I have to my right ankle, but what helps it on long rides are the EZ Ride stirrups and an ankle brace from WalMart. And I sit the canter as much as possible vs. standing in my irons. I also canter more and trot less so I don't have to post as much.

Just got officially diagnosed with peroneal tendonitis at the orthopedist. Has anyone tried riding in a brace? He sent me home with one that definitely will not fit under my english paddock boots, but it looks like it will fit in my western cowboy boots pretty well...

    I also recommend the MDC's.

I fractured my ankle, tore my peroneal tendon, stretched the ligaments, and ruptured 4 extensor tendons. Those stirrups were a life saver.

I tried one of the neoprene braces from Walmart and I found it didn't help much for riding. I actually went to a drug store/medical supply and got what is called an ankle stablizer. No more bulky than the neoprene one and worked much better. I actually purchased a pair of the Reflex stirrups(found them on sale for $33) and they did seem to help some.

I currently have a peroneal tendon injury as well.

I use regular irons carefully placed at an angle across the ball of my foot and K tape. Even contemplating a flexible iron makes it hurt.

I hate braces so I just use the K tape. With running and riding I got 3 days out of my last tape job.

The best thing I've found for minimizing joint pain is:

    A) Super-Comfort Iron Pads

    particularly when paired with:

    B) Non-jointed irons with a wider footbed

I've tried Sprenger irons - they really don't help me at all.

The K tape worked wonders for me as well, but I could never put it on well myself so I had to go to my sports massage therapist. It was just not practical anymore because he is so far away from my office and home and it was expensive because he wasn't covered by insurance Loved that stuff though!
