I have 3 hens that all tried going broody at once. One went broody last year, but no chicks hatched. I decided to let her try again this year and was prepared to buy her a few chicks if her eggs did not hatch. Then other 2 hens are first time broodies, but one of their mothers was a very good broody previously.
Anyway, I lost my marbles and gave all 3 of them eggs to see what happens. First mom up to bat had a hatching date of this weekend and she popped 5 chicks as of this am. Even though I had her wired in, it appears that a few other girls were able to get some more eggs to her because she has tons of extra eggs. I'm undecided what to do with the extras. I'm thinking I might try and stick them under the other 2 broodies (one is a week behind and the other is 2 weeks behind) to see if they hatch since I want to get mom and babies moved to one of my chick hutches so they have room to move around without threat of things eating the babies. Not sure though.
Here is video of the mom teaching one of the chicks how to eat. Don't pay attention to the "feeder". The area was too small for a real chick feeder, so I stole the base off of the outdoor cat waterer. >.>
